California Academy Members - Please be aware of emails originating from addresses unfamiliar to you. These may likely be "phishing" emails. If a member of leadership emails you and asks for an immediate response, money, gift cards, or anything out of the ordinary this could be a computer attempting to hack your system or share corrupt files. The Academy is currently implementing an Incident Reporting Tool (IRT) form that can be used for reporting success and harm as well as facilitate stakeholder and policymakers' understanding of the value of qualified RDN care. Access at the bottom of the California Academy website home page: https://www.dietitian.org.
Licensure is The Academy's #1 priority. A State Landscape Task Force meets monthly and will suggest resource allocation changes as needed to help states obtain licensure.

CA Academy lobbyists are recommending endorsement of certain bills and/or to align with specific coalitions. These actions will help to enhance political capital by aligning the CA Academy with sponsoring organization(s).

Legislative Ambassadors are working to establish connections with local, state and federal legislative leaders.

State Public Policy Updates:
CA Academy will be scheduling in person District Advocacy Summits in Spring 2022.

Campaign for Equity in Obesity Care (CEOC)
CEOC is unique. From its founding by recognized leaders in Latino, African American, and Asian American/Pacific Islander communities, the campaign has grown steadily, both in numbers and in reach. It is a grassroots-based campaign, building public awareness while focusing on listening and learning in order to give voice to individual experience, creating a two-way conversation that ensures buy-in from those most in need on how best to tackle obesity in their own lives and communities

The Academy asked the CA Academy to collaborate with and provide financial support for CEOC. The CEOC is working hard to support this important state initiative as well as the Federal Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA). Having a seat at this table could mean that an RDN will contribute and help to shape state policies that will eventually turn into laws. The Executive Board is presently researching the CA Academy’s potential level of support. More to come on this campaign. STAY TUNED!
