A September full to overflowing...

It's still the dry season here in Northern California, but our life together is still running over with blessings and chances to be together. Here's a reminder about all the good stuff going on these next couple weeks:

  • Saturday, September 7 - The Great Sabbatical Tidy-Up's last big effort, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. We'll straighten the Godly Play room, scrub some parts of the kitchen, pull weeds and get those glops of wax of the solea. Come help shine the place up for Paul's return and the start of our new program year.
  • Sunday, September 8 - We've got a Godly Play story, "The Parable of the Great Pearl" happening in place of the usual reading, sermon and sharing. It promises to be a wonderful shared moment of meaning-making. During the Faith Formation hour, we'll have an all-parish conversation about our hopes for and commitments to our children and youth. At the 11:00 service, baby Amelie, daughter of Ken and Ariana, will receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Please bring generous contributions to coffee hour as a show of hospitality to their extended family.
  • Sunday, September 15 - I'll preach and preside for the last time with you at St. Gregory's. During the Faith Formation hour, Jen and I will share our vision for Good Courage Farm, where we're called to create a new shared ministry of food justice, sabbath and Eucharistic celebration. Please stay late or come early as you're able -- we'll show photos and tell stories from 9:30 until 10:30.
  • Sunday, September 22 - Paul will preach and preside at both services. In between the two services, we'll have a proper English Tea and celebrate Paul's homecoming, post-sabbatical. Please stay late or come early as you're able -- we'll celebrate with Paul from 9:30 until 10:30.

See you here at church,

All Parish-Conversation: Our Shared Ministry with Children and Youth
This Sunday, our Forum conversation will focus on our shared hopes for and commitments to the children and youth who are growing in faith here at St. Gregory's. We'll talk about Godly Play, having just experienced the telling of the Parable of the Pearl at the 8:30 Eucharist, as a model for learning to trust and nourish our inner theologian. We'll talk about worship together. We'll imagine what new things God might be inviting us to do together.

Please join us for this important discussion on Sunday, September 8 from 9:45 until 10:30 . This is a gathering for people of all ages; the voices of kids and youth are central to our ministry of faith formation.

One Last Thing...

The Parish Retreat at the Bishop's Ranch is NEXT MONTH (Oct. 25-27). If you have already set up your Realm Connect account, you can register for the retreat here.

While signing up, consider whether you're able to make a full or half "solidarity contribution" to help another SGN member be able to attend the retreat. In an economically diverse parish like ours, solidarity contributions help us live into our mission to be a truly welcoming, inclusive community, not just on Sunday mornings, but in all aspects of our shared life together.

If you find yourself having any trouble signing up for the retreat or registering your Realm Connect account, you can email Brian for help.
