Take advantage of your extra time off this weekend to  submit a nomination for a 2016 CEC Award.
The CEC Award Programs recognize the very best in special and gifted education: The professionals who advance the field and the students who inspire us.
Nominations are now being accepted for the following:
  • Yes I Can Awardscelebrating the accomplishments of children and youth with exceptionalities from around the world in six categories: Academics, Arts, School & Community Activities, Self-Advocacy, Technology and Transition (including work, vocational training, and independent living skills).
  • CEC's Professional Awardsrecognizing special and gifted educators who have advanced the field and the quality of education service, as well as CEC members whose contributions have moved the Council forward in significant ways.
  • CEC's Student Awards, honoring CEC student members and faculty advisors who have made outstanding contributions to CEC and to children and youth with exceptionalities.

Children's Literature - A Tool for Teaching Social Skills and Conflict Resolution Techniques - Marie Hardenberg
This workshop will use picture books and corresponding activities to teach manners, social skills and conflict resolution techniques. Participants will leave with a list of books, small and large group activities, and lesson adaptations for all learners that can easily be incorporated into your early childhood classroom.
Using an Interdisciplinary Profile to Support Early Childhood Transitions: Results of a Qualitative Study -  Corinne Catalano
A first person profile (The Profile) was used as a transition tool to support the transition of students from preschool special education to general education classrooms. Learn more about this study that examined how the use of The Profile aligned with Division for Early Childhood's recommended practices for transition from the perspective of the preschool teachers, therapists and child study team members.
Integrating Related Services in an Inclusive Preschool Classroom - Sandy Shields
This workshop will show participants how teachers and therapists can work together to help students acquire skills across disciplines while integrating Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech within the naturally occurring preschool environment. Learn how to design therapeutic interventions that integrate into daily play activities within the preschool classroom. Team planning will be a focus.
So You Have a Child with Special Needs in Your Class... Ways to Support Different Learning Styles in Your Setting - Eileen McCann
A veteran early childhood special educator, who's had the privilege of working with gifted Speech/Language, Occupational and Physical Therapists, shares easily implemented suggestions that will enhance the learning opportunities for all your students.
