Fall 2016
 Greetings!

Fall Song

Another year gone, leaving everywhere
its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves,
the uneaten fruits crumbling damply
in the shadows, unmattering back
from the particular island
of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere
except underfoot, moldering
in that black subterranean castle
of unobservable mysteries - - -roots and sealed seeds
and the wanderings of water. This
I try to remember when time's measure
painfully chafes, for instance when autumn
flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing
to stay - - - how everything lives, shifting
from one bright vision to another, forever
in these momentary pastures.

~Mary Oliver

In New England one cannot help but notice the boisterous applause of the leaves bidding us adieu for another year. Those of you who have been faithful readers of my newsletter over the years know that when the seasons change, especially in the fall,  I often pull out a Mary Oliver poem to share. As a poet, Mary Oliver captures the essence of the practice of mindfulness in nature. Her laser focused observations of the natural environment help balance me in this often frenetic world. Mindfulness is simply learning to pay attention, without expectation or judgement, to the present moment...what better time to practice than when nature beckons us with such vibrance.

Wishing you a season of mindful moments in nature,
Pam

Special Workshop for Teens:
Building Resilience through Mindfulness
student

Join Pam Ressler on Thursday, November 3, 6:00-8:00 PM at Danny's Place Youth Services in Acton, MA for a special workshop just for teens: Building Resilience through Mindfulness.

During this interactive workshop, teens, ages 13-19, will develop and integrate new skills of stress reduction into their lives, in the classroom and at home.  The Building Resilience through Mindfulness Workshop will focus on effective, quick skills designed specially for students to re-frame success to include mindfulness in academics, athletics, artistic endeavors and leadership.  Participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Identify sources of stress and understand how stress impacts the mind and body
  • Learn practical, quick and effective tools of mindfulness
  • Enhance concentration and creative thinking
  • Improve focus using the same mindfulness techniques as professional athletes
  • Explore ways to build resilience into everyday life
This workshop is offered at no charge to participants through the generous support of Danny's Place Youth Services, but space is extremely limited... register here

I am honored to be giving one of the keynote addresses for the inaugural conference of the Children's Palliative Care Coalition of Michigan on November 11 in East Lansing, Michigan. I will be speaking about Japanese art of  kintsugi and how it relates to the special resilience of families living with the experience of life-limiting illness of a child. This conference holds special meaning for me, as I grew up in East Lansing, Michigan and I also wear each of the many hats of the audience members...parent, advocate and health care professional. If you are a health care professional in the East Lansing area, please consider joining this inaugural conference (continuing education for nurses will be available).

As I prepare my talk, I am mulling over the question...how can we, as a society that is no longer accustomed to pediatric death, do better in supporting families and caregiver through devastating loss? I would love for you to share your thoughts with me by email.

Let's work together to create an individualized approach to mindfulness that will work for YOU. I work with clients across the country, no need to be in the Boston area.
  • Are you looking for strategies to engage more successfully in your professional life?
  • Would you like an individualized approach to mindfulness?
  • Weekly group classes don't work for your schedule?
  • Are you a "totally Type A person" and cannot fathom how meditation would work for you?
Individual Mindfulness Training  is a unique option offered only by Stress Resources that allows the individual to set the pace for training but maintains the essential framework of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in private or semi-private sessions. Either in my Concord office or conveniently by Skype.

Stress Resources' Individual Mindfulness Training has been successfully taught to entrepreneurs, business leaders, athletes, healthcare professionals, management consultants, teachers, busy parents and students. We work together, mindfully, to meet your needs. What are you waiting for?
