2016 Summer Camps

Across this huge country of Canada,

thousands of kids’ lives were forever changed this summer as hundreds of our YFC volunteers and staff worked together to share Gods love.

I love every story of a child or young person who discovers that they have a loving God who knows them, loves them, and likes them! The third truth, (that God likes them), is often the hardest to grasp, especially if they don’t really like themselves!

Just another sheep,

Dave Brereton

Healthy and Resilient Staff

The team who gathered at Honeymoon Bay in May, 2016.

Healthy and Resilient Staff

YFC Canada has been gifted a beautiful retreat centre called “Honeymoon Bay” in Victoria, BC. In October 2015 we hosted our Executive Director Retreat at this site and spent much of our time praying and discerning as to whether to accept the gift and how it would be best used for YFC. The feedback from the Board of Directors, National Team, Executive Directors and from YLAB (Young Leaders Advisory Board) was a resounding "YES! Let’s accept this gift with a plan of using the facility to ensure that we are investing in caring for our staff."

Military to missionary: Ottawa woman trades gun for Bible

Please read Vanessa’s story and be encouraged. Vanessa is now in El Salvador and loving the ministry there. On July 27th Vanessa wrote: "I had one of those amazing moments today while sitting in the Aguilares church. I have sat in those seats many times over the past four years, as God further developed the missionary calling in my heart. This was the moment I have been waiting for, for so long - it hit me, This is my life now. Believe it or not, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. Greater things are yet to come, greater things are still to be done in this city!"

Art Camp during Talk Time

Staff Testimonies – Summer 2016

Compiled by Katy Brereton

YFC Highlands: YFC staff, Dana, writes the following testimony: “My highlight for the entire summer came one morning of Art Camp during Talk Time. I was using rocks wrapped in paper with the word “SIN” written on them as an object lesson. I handed out rocks to 10 kids and asked them to stand, holding them in one hand while I spoke. After a while I asked if anyone would like to give me their rock to hold for them. The idea was that I would try to hold all the rocks at once and be unsuccessful. The point I was going to make was that I can’t carry their sin for them. Only Jesus can do that for us. However, the kids didn’t respond how I expect them to...

Desmond Snyman

Desmond Snyman

In Loving Memory

Written by Dwayne Dyck, Westman YFC

It’s January, and we’re standing on top of the tube slide at camp Cedarwood, near Lac du Bonnet. As good YFC type people, we’ve decided to see how many bodies we can stack on the tube and still make it down the slide (I ruined a good pair of boots on that run as the crush of people drove them into the slide’s wooden frame). A young YFC Winnipeg staff with unkempt curly hair operated the slide and chose not to intervene with our little adventure. The young staff person’s name was Desmond Snyman...
