So Much in the News?
What is happening? Prevent Child Abuse Illinois acknowledges that it can be difficult to listen to the media reports of late as all the disclosures of sexual abuse and assault are disturbing, difficult to hear, and overwhelming. Many people don't want to discuss these harsh realities or choose to close them off altogether.  But it is important now more than ever not only to pay attention to these personal accounts but also to have conversations about how to prevent sexual abuse and assault. This is especially true as it pertains to children. Child sexual abuse can happen to any child and impacts every community. The negative effects of child sexual abuse can be devastating physically, behaviorally and emotionally and its impact can last well into adulthood.

Prevent Child Abuse Illinois would like to issue a 'call to action' as everyone has a role to play in helping to protect all children. Prevent Child Abuse Illinois encourages everyone to have a conversation with others and these conversations also need to happen with children so they can learn to say 'no' to an adult who makes them feel uncomfortable and know they can tell a trusted adult if something has occurred.

We must have these difficult conversations and we must become educated about the facts about sexual abuse and what it takes to prevent it. We must do something now!
