The end of a season, especially summer, can be a bittersweet time for many but it's also a time to renew and retool.  With school beginning again and as outdoor activities slow, the need for volunteers is great.

Read on to see what's happening and learn about opportunities to try new volunteer roles in your community.

Getting to Know Us
Meet Anabella Tracy

For the past two years I have managed the My Free Tutor and STEM Presenters programs. I love these two programs because they are all about breaking down barriers and bringing key people together.

My Free Tutor allows students and college-bound veterans to access  qualified individuals to help them conquer mathematics during hour-long online tutoring sessions.

The STEM Presenters program allows students to peek into the lives, careers and professional journeys of local content experts exposing them to the potential of a career in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.

This past spring, a statistician from the Bureau of Labor Statistics made a presentation that inspired two eighth grade students so much that they were able to see themselves in that career in their futures.

My ideal program volunteer is someone patient, fun and kind, who is looking to use their skills and talents to make a profound and lasting impact in the lives of students and veterans.

We will be hosting our First Annual My Free Tutor meeting virtually on Thursday, September 13th at 12:00pm.  This will be an opportunity for new and current tutors to come together in a virtual environment and receive important information about the upcoming school year, share best practices and meet other volunteers. If you are a current MFT tutor, you will receive information on how to attend the meeting via email. If you are interested in participating, or would like to learn more, please contact Anabella for more information.

If you are good at math and can spare an hour a week or if you are a STEM employee and would like to help inspire youth to pursue a rewarding career, please reach out to Marguerite Cunning 610-834-1040 x.123

Meet Tom Livingston

Tom receiving his Senior Corps Legacy Award in 2016 from Jacqui Baxter
Tom joined RSVP in 2014 and quickly  got involved in several programs and areas.  A retired newspaper and magazine editor, Tom has become indispensable to help promote our programs and volunteer achievements by writing newspaper articles and helping with website and social media postings.  Tom's most recent article highlighted the America Reads program and can be read by clicking here.

To date, Tom has dedicated 1,522 hours  to his various roles as an enthusiastic guide at The Constitution Center, by providing rides and companionship to low income seniors and by supporting our communications and outreach activities.

Quote from Tom:  "RSVP has helped me find enjoyable volunteer activities that fit a retired lifestyle with travel. Plenty of RSVP opportunities also fit working folks' schedules. As long as RSVP is around, there will be meaningful, satisfying ways to help the community."

Strategic Planning: A Hands-On Workshop

Tuesday, September 18  9:30am to noon

What is a strategic plan? Why is it important for a nonprofit to have and use one? What should be in the plan? How is one developed and implemented? These are all topics that will be covered in our interactive seminar. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of their organization's strategic plan if they have one (it's OK if you don't have one).  Participants will begin the process of developing or revising a plan by working on a few sections that will then be presented to the group for comment. The emphasis will be on how to develop your plan.

Effective Fundraising Approaches from Successful Nonprofits
Tuesday, October 16   9:30 to noon

Every nonprofit is concerned about fundraising and wants to learn how to do it more successfully.  Hear from a panel of your peers -- other nonprofits -- about fundraising techniques have worked for them.  The workshop will include a brief introduction to the highlights of fundraising followed by a moderated discussion among the panel.  Bring your questions and plan to participate!

Introduction to Measuring Nonprofit Success
Tuesday, November 13   9:30 to noon

An initial workshop on measuring success for nonprofit organizations, this session will introduce attendees to the important elements and concepts for determining success and failure.  This interactive session will discuss how goals, outcomes, and measures can be used to determine organizational success.  The discussions will be based on attendee inputs.

All workshops held at RSVP,
