Port Orchard and Bremerton Marina Updates
HELLO BOATERS,

I hope you are doing well and have enjoyed some Pacific Northwest sunshine this summer. 2020 has been a challenging year and getting out on the water has been one of the most popular ways to get away from the day-to-day and to relax, truly enjoy nature, sport fishing, the maritime vistas, and the best aspects of our local waterways.

The Port Orchard and Bremerton Marinas were designated as essential infrastructure throughout the year and continue to operate through this difficult time for your boating needs.

Boating is one of the safest ways to recreate as we go into fall and our marinas have instituted measures and procedures to provide safe and sanitary facilities to be able to be enjoyed by boaters throughout this year.

We want to thank you for visiting or keeping your boat at Port of Bremerton Marinas. The Bremerton and Port Orchard Marinas endeavor to provide boaters with first-rate moorage, state-of-the-art facilities, and professional service. Our goal is simple: provide accommodations and services that will make the Bremerton and Port Orchard Marinas your favorite ports of call in Puget Sound.

MARINA SQUARE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction has started again on the Marina Square Project.  The project construction was temporarily impacted due to the COVID-19 pause for construction activity in Washington State.  As of the last update, the concrete floors for the three levels of underground parking have been poured and, when open will provide the Bremerton Marina with up to 75 spaces of tenant parking next to the waterfront.  Project completion may require up to a year for the entire structure, but the team will be working to open the parking component earlier. Regular updates will be provided as the project continues to move forward.

FREEDOM BOATS TO EXPAND MOORAGE AT PORT ORCHARD MARINA
Freedom Boats has requested additional moorage at the Port Orchard Marina and will be expanding operations and boats at the Port Orchard location. Freedom Boat Club is the largest members-only boat club in the world. Members enjoy unlimited boating within their Home Club as well as reciprocal access across 200+ locations in the United States, Canada, and Europe with a diverse fleet of boats available. Demand for boating has increased through the pandemic  The Chicago-based National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), reported that total U.S. recreational boat activity has seen increases across all boating segments during this year. Freedom Boats has also benefited as boating has been identified as a popular COVID-safe activity and as a means for families to enjoy the outdoors and natural marine environment.

PORT ORCHARD MARINA BREAKWATER CONTRACT APPROVED AND WORK IS ALREADY UNDERWAY
The Port of Bremerton Commissioners voted unanimously to award the design and engineering contract to replace the Port Orchard Marina’s breakwater to PND Engineers, Inc., based out of Anchorage. Built in 1974, the current breakwater is at the end of its service life and is due to be replaced. PND Engineers and the Port have been working closely with the City of Port Orchard and Kitsap Transit in securing existing waterfront survey data, as-built drawings of existing infrastructure, electrical, sewer, and stormwater locations, and any additional information to benefit the breakwater design project.
Underwater habitat surveys are scheduled for Wednesday & Thursday, September 23 & 24 with divers, vessels, and equipment around the breakwater and the nearshore area.

BREMERTON MARINA WEEKEND PARKING CHANGES
The Bremerton Marina previously enjoyed temporary weekend parking with Kitsap Transit facilities over the summer. With COVID impacts this year, the number of crowded weekend events has been severely reduced and downtown parking needs for weekend only parking has not been used much this year. Unfortunately, that parking option will be expiring in October as a result. We are all hoping 2021 will be a return to a more normal weekend event schedule.

SEATTLE DIVE SERVICES CONDUCTING UNDERWATER INSPECTIONS OF PORT MARINE FACILITIES
Seattle Dive Services was the successful bidder for the Underwater Inspection of Port Marine Facilities and will be conducting diving inspection and thorough analysis of the Port’s underwater infrastructure and cathodic protection systems. Dive inspections and maintenance reports will be provided of the pilings, moorings, and maintenance requirements for the Port Orchard Marina, Bremerton Marina, USS Turner Joy, and the Harper Pier. Work will be conducted in October and will complete in November.
PORT ORCHARD ACTIVITY SHELTER
The Port Orchard Activity Shelter is scheduled to be replaced in early October. The Guest Float and nearby guest slips will be temporarily closed for reservations during this short construction period. The replacement structure will provide a much more beautiful and robust structure that will better weather the northwest marine climate and improve the activity area for the boating public.
