The SPRYE 2020 Benefit Committee chose to honor ​our local EMS organizations in late 2019. ​It was not possible to foresee the critical role the staff would play throughout 2020 as the ​Corona ​Virus ​took center stage in our lives.

Pictured with the two Benefit Co-Chairs Lauren Miscimarra and Dale Mintz is Richard Esposito, Harrison EMT. He reported on the number of calls the team responded to in 2020 to the board members.

Below, Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS Director Scott Moore shows a stretcher that's used in the EMS vehicle and the life-saving equipment that accompanies it.

The SPRYE Virtual Benefit ​welcomed many viewers live
on October 1st. 

​They were able to attend from the comfort of their home while relaxing in their favorite easy chair.

The video captured the many services volunteers provide to members as they continue to age comfortably in place and highlighted our honorees - the Harrison EMS and Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS organizations for their dedication and service.

There's Always Room for Ice Cream

Dominic sang Sinatra favorites in between dispensing ice cream and talking with new and old friends.
Two Join the SPRYE
Board of Directors
Rye resident Tom Wynne, left and Richard Flahive, below, who lives in Wilton, Connecticut have joined our Board of Directors.

Tom is a retired commercial mechanical engineer and has been a volunteer since 2011.Richard is a member of the Rotary Club and is a private wealth advisor and director of research and planning at Hightower Westchester in Harrison.

"These new board members embody the spirit of community and bring talent, expertise and energy to a board dedicated to helping older adults in our communities," said Marie Johnson, Executive Director.

Miss Going to Museums? Artscapades
to the Rescue!





Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman of Artscapades, based in New Canaan, brought art into members home this fall with a series that examined three art movements through the centuries. Another series will be offered in November for members.

Whether your taste runs from Pop to Cubism, Warhol or Monet, Artscapades promises to deliver an engaging program.
SPRYE First Book Club
The SPRYE Book Club was launched this summer and was led by Yale graduate Student Andrew Ballard until September when he left the U.S. to further his studies at Oxford. Rye Brook resident Barb Tankel soon joined to lead the group with two New York Times bestsellers "American Dirt" and "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand." The next book is "How to Make a Life" by Rye resident Florence Reiss Kraut.

Chris Shoemaker, the Director at the Rye Free Reading Room will interview Florence next Thursday night, October 29, at 7 p.m. The link to the library graphic for the program is here:https://fb.me/e/232EXHjYg

The Gentle Chair Yoga program ​previously held at the Port Chester/Rye Brook library twice a week was suspended. However, yoga fans ​will be able to continue the class at Crawford Mansion well into November. SPRYE member Joan Gibbons, pictured ​above, leads the group.
Lee Katz Celebrates Her Bat Mitzvah
Rye resident Lee Katz celebrated her bat mitzvah virtually at Community Synagogue of Rye in July. Rabbi Daniel Gropper and Cantor Melanie Cooperman guided Ms. Katz with her studies that took two years. The ceremony was held three days after Lee's birthday. "The ceremony made me appreciate all the love and support I have received from friends and family members," said Lee.

Lee is a former SPRYE Board member and currently serves on the Advisory Council.

For those who know Lee, or have been in her presence a short time, they know they have met a truly exceptional woman.
