Alumni Honored at QVCC 50th Celebration

On Thursday, October 21, 2021, Quinebaug Valley Community College celebrated 50 years of serving the community of Northeast Connecticut. Over 150 current and retired faculty and staff members, alumni, state representatives, CSCU administration, and community members gathered to reflect and honor the work of the college over the past five decades. A highlight of the evening was the awarding of five "QVCC Champions" for their tireless work for the betterment of Quinebaug Valley Community College and continued advocacy on behalf students in the community. The QVCC Alumni Association is proud to share that three alumni were honored as QVCC Champions: Joy Chartier '78, Dr. Lynn Pasquerella '78, and Denise Walsh '90. Other individuals recognized were WINY owners Gary & Karen Osbrey, and QVCC Director of Institutional Advancement Monique Wolanin. ALUMNI AT TACKLE THE TRAIL Alumnus Devon Harris '17 and team On Saturday, October 16, 2021 the QVCC Foundation hosted Tackle the Trail, a trail race through Northeast CT to benefit students at QVCC. For the past 8 years, this event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support scholarships and grants for QVCC students. Members of the QVCC Alumni Association supported the event as runners and volunteers. Tackle the Trail also welcomed QVCC Alumna Mikayla Gagnon '12, owner of Ginger Photography as the official Finish Line Photographer! Tackle the Trail is held the 3rd Saturday in October and offers a marathon course for individual runners and relay teams. A half marathon course is also available for individuals. The 2021 event grossed $60,000 for students studying at QVCC. Thanks to ALL QVCC alumni who supported Tackle the Trail!

Each month, Quinebaug Valley Community College will share alumni stories on the college's LinkedIn page with a series of questions & answers. In celebration of October as Manufacturing Month, the series begins with QVCC Alumna Kristina Davenport '19. 1. What did you study at QVCC?  I first earned an Advanced Manufacturing Certificate in 2017 and then continued my education by earning an A.S. in Engineering Science in 2019. 2.What programs or projects did you participate in during your time at QVCC? As part of the first group in the new Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC), I was part of the “Make It Here” initiative involving Governor Malloy. I also have participated in promotions for the AMTC as a woman in manufacturing, featured on the QVCC website and also as part of a 4-woman panel of QVCC graduates for the Women in Manufacturing event in 2019. I was selected for a trip to France as part of a program that hosts students in American Community Colleges for a 2 week boot camp on the topic of “Active Citizenship in the Digital Area” hosted in Caen, Normandy, France.... The Spirol Art Gallery, in collabortation with the QVCC Alumni Association, welcomes alumni artists to submit work to be featured in a QVCC Alumni Art Exhibition during the spring 2022 semester . Whether you graduated from QVCC with a fine arts degree, or pursued art after your time at the college, we are interested in your work!
