JSUOnline Quality Course Evaluation Rubric Standards

OLC OSCQR Course Design Review

The OLC OSCQR Course Design Review Scorecard (JSUOnline Quality Course Standards) is a course-level quality rubric for reviewing and improving online courses' instructional design and accessibility of online courses based on online best practices. With 50 instructional design and accessibility standards integrated into the rubric, it can be used to identify and target aspects of online courses for improvement. The rubric includes the following categories: Course Overview and Information, Course Technology and Tools, Design and Layout, Content and Activities, Interaction, Assessment, and Feedback.
Course Delivery Modes of Instruction
Asynchronous/Synchronous Online Courses

Asynchronous online courses use a computer and the Internet to access course materials within Canvas and include email, threaded discussions, simulations, multimedia, chat rooms, and more. Online courses do not have a physical meeting time or place. However, some courses may require chat sessions which require that students log in to Canvas simultaneously. Online courses include sections 80-89, 800-899, and 70-72. Online degree program courses include sections 100-109 (Note: Only students admitted to an online degree program may register for section 100 level courses). Synchronous online courses have a scheduled day and time to meet online. Synchronous online courses include sections 200-299.

Hybrid Courses

Hybrid courses use a combination of face-to-face instruction and online activities in Canvas or a publisher website. The syllabi will specify meeting dates and online activities. Hybrid courses must meet face-to-face at least 51 percent of the scheduled class sessions. Hybrid courses include sections 600-699, 60-69, and 79.

Traditional Face-to-Face

Canvas enhanced courses are face-to-face courses. The instructor uses Canvas to post the course syllabus and to email students. Only a minimal number of online activities and the course meets in the traditional classroom all semester.

Fall 2022 Course Requirements

All fall 2022 courses (online and hybrid) will use Canvas, the University-approved Learning Management System. All courses in either format are required to have the following components.
