Katherine "Katy" Abbott, Ph.D., MGS was named Executive Director of Scripps Gerontology Center, effective July 18, 2022. Katy will continue our mission to conduct research, provide service, and support education that makes a positive difference in the lives of aging people, their families, and their communities. | |

Aaron Glavin, first year MGS student, is excited to learn more about dementia-friendly web design through OMA's ScrippsAVID project after spending 4 years at Epic Systems working to create accessible healthcare software. He is also grateful for the opportunity to sing with Threshold Choir. Aaron holds a Bachelor's in Health & Society and Business Economics from Beloit College in Wisconsin. | |

Lucas Adams is a second-year MGS student from Frankfort, IL. His work focuses on mental health and minority groups in the aging community such as those in the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, incarcerated individuals, and those with cognitive disabilities. Lucas has worked as a mental health counselor for older adults, including clients living with dementia. He looks forward to working with more older adults and experiencing OMA.

Facilitator Training Opportunities | |
There are plenty of opportunities to sign up for training to become a certified OMA facilitator in 2023. Participants will earn 20 hours CEUs from NCCAP and NCCDP upon completion. Below are upcoming trainings:
- Hybrid training in Virginia begins January 10, 2023
- Hybrid training in Ohio begins March 14, 2023
- Hybrid training in Virginia begins March 28, 2023
- Fully Online Training begins May 1, 2023

Medicaid-certified skilled nursing facilities (SNF) in both Ohio AND Virginia can apply for funding to implement OMA as a Quality Improvement Project. Selected nursing homes will receive scholarships for two staff members to attend OMA training, plus $2,000 to purchase art supplies. PAIR launches in Northeast Ohio | |

Promoting Art and Intergenerational Relationships (PAIR) is a non-profit located in Northeast Ohio (Cleveland/Akron area).
Three Miami University alumni who were actively involved in OMA during their academic studies founded PAIR in 2020 and share a passion for OMA, aging individuals, those living with dementia, and the greater community. PAIR is also an OMA Training Center and hosts Hybrid Facilitator Training in Northeastern Ohio.

OMA featured in Miami's Grandparents College | |

This summer, OMA participated in Miami University's Grandparents College. Grandparents (Miami alumni) brought their grandchildren to participate in activities and events around campus. OMA was featured in the Arts and Culture track. Participants created their own painted frames and were gifted a picture of their time together in the program.
