Fall 2025: Construction Update

This semester our campus community has had to adapt to a changing landscape here at The Beach, and we know it hasn’t always been easy. Yet through every detour, relocation, and growing pain, students, faculty, and staff have shown remarkable flexibility, creativity, and care as we navigate this transition together.

While a few visible changes have taken place on the exterior of the University Student Union (USU), a tremendous amount of work has been happening inside the building. From August through December 2025, construction crews have been preparing the USU for its full renovation and expansion by completing essential early-phase work.

This foundational phase has included abatement and demolition in several key areas, such as: the Beach Auditorium, Games Center, Center Courtyard, C-Store, food court and offices. To support this work, utilities within the USU were safely shut off, allowing crews to begin removing existing utility lines throughout the building. Abatement is nearly complete, and demolition continues to ramp up—important steps that clear the way for the next major phase of construction.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look:

Below, you’ll find a collection of photos highlighting some of the work happening inside the USU this fall—offering a rare glimpse into the transformation underway. To explore additional images and ongoing moments from the project, visit the Future U Gallery on our website.

What to Expect in Spring 2026:

When we return for the spring semester, campus will see several improvements to support daily life at The Beach. For example, all kitchen trailers will be fully operational, expanding food options and improving convenience across campus. And, the now operational Coastal Coffee, will have even more drink and food options coming your way.

These enhancements, paired with the continued progress inside the USU, reflect our commitment to preserving a vibrant, connected, student-centered campus experience throughout the construction period.

Thank you for your patience, your feedback, and your ongoing support as we work together to create the next chapter of the USU. We look forward to sharing more updates and behind-the-scenes moments in the months ahead.
