School is underway, and we are thrilled to report a seamless start to the school year thanks to our dedicated staff, students, and families. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for your continued support of RBUSD, Measure S, facility upgrades, and safety enhancements. This quarterly communication highlights the significant progress made on summer projects and shares what is planned through the end of 2025.

Bond Oversight Committee Ensures Transparency

Our citizens' oversight committee held its first meeting last week and began its vital work of reviewing and reporting on the proper expenditure of taxpayers' money for school construction. As mandated by Education Code Section 15728, the committee actively informs the public about bond revenue expenditures, ensuring every dollar is spent responsibly on improving our schools. Major Roof Renovations Protect Our Schools

This summer's $9.1 million roofing project is now complete across all school sites. Six schools received complete reroofing with 20-year lifespans: Adams, Beryl Heights (Kinder Wing), Lincoln (MP Building), Parras (Admin Building), Redondo Union HS (300's and 400's Buildings), and Tulita (all classrooms except CDC). Alta Vista, Birney, Jefferson, and Parras received repairs and coating for 10-year extensions.

These improvements protect against leaks, mold, and structural damage while providing better temperature control for optimal learning conditions and long-term energy savings.

Enhanced Security Through Comprehensive Fencing Upgrades

Safety remains our top priority, which is why we have invested $4.6 million in comprehensive fencing improvements across twelve school sites. From July through December, we are upgrading fencing at every school, adding protective screens, and increasing fence height around kindergarten areas at Beryl, Lincoln, and Madison.



The project features anti-climb protection and black screening that matches our existing steel fencing, creating a uniform, professional appearance while limiting outside visibility. These enhancements provide crucial intrusion and access control while offering comfort to families who can feel confident their children are protected by thoughtful safety infrastructure. Tulita's fence was completed on August 22, with Beryl Heights, Birney, Madison, and Lincoln scheduled to begin this month and October.

Student Voice in Elementary Playground Design

Democracy is coming to our playgrounds. Students and staff will have the opportunity to vote on new play structures from carefully pre-selected options, with voting taking place this school year.

This $11 million investment reflects our commitment to creating engaging, safe recreational spaces designed with student input at the heart of the process.

Cutting-Edge Technology Enhances Safety and Learning

Lincoln and Parras schools have been upgraded with state-of-the-art technology and safety systems through Measure S. High-resolution security cameras enhance campus monitoring, while digital clocks with integrated speakers improve daily operations and emergency communication.

New CAT 6 cabling delivers faster, more reliable connectivity, and expanded outdoor Wi-Fi now supports learning in quads and athletic spaces.

Updated bell and horn systems provide clear, consistent signals for class changes and emergencies. Adams Middle School and Washington Elementary are next to receive these comprehensive technology upgrades, and work has already begun.

Brighter, More Efficient LED Lighting Campus-Wide

Every indoor and outdoor space across all school sites now features energy-efficient LED lighting, building on the gym conversions completed in previous years. This district-wide upgrade aligns with California AB 2208 legislation while delivering superior light quality that enhances learning environments. The conversion reduces maintenance requirements and provides significant savings in both energy costs and disposal expenses.

Looking Ahead: Major Projects in Development

Our architectural teams are planning major facility upgrades. Lincoln and Madison will be the first elementary schools to receive new portable classrooms. Redondo Union High projects include a Career Tech Ed building, an improved drop-off near the Science building with increased parking, and the Sea Hawk Bowl will see safer stadium seating for athletic events. These projects will take some time, but architectural concepts have begun.
