NAPNAP National Conference

Casey Cook, a recent DNP graduate from Baylor University, shared her DNP project with the Greater Texas Chapter of NAPNAP at our last meeting. Casey and her two project partners developed Screen Smart, an educational tool for pediatric providers to help educate parents on the significant emotional and physical impacts of too much screen time. A review of the literature showed that school age kids watch more than 2 hours of TV/iPad/iPhone/Video Games daily (not including screens utilized in the school setting). It was also discovered that only 16% of pediatric providers discuss the importance of screen regulation in regular wellness checks. The most important thing found was that parents lack the tools to set media boundaries. Casey has provided some of the most significant resources to us as well as a link to helping our patients develop their own family media plan. We are so grateful that Casey took the time to share her work with us so that we may all better serve out pediatric patients.

NAPNAP STUDENTS

This years Greater Texas NAPNAP Board Retreat was held at president, April Meras beautiful home. This yearly retreat is an opportunity for board members to meet, fellowship, and strategize for our chapter. This year, our board allocated a total of $10,000 to donate to the Texas flood relief efforts. The board also was able to donate first aid kits to be given out to parents at a Back to School Health Fair held in August. We would love for you to join us as we continue to give back.
