Employer Market Outlook

Alberta’s Workforce Is Changing. Is Your Hiring Strategy Ready?

Alberta’s changing labour market is creating both opportunity and complexity for employers. With skilled workers still difficult to find, organizations that plan early, broaden traditional talent pipelines, and invest in inclusive hiring and retention will be better positioned to succeed.

Prospect can help employers connect with overlooked talent, reduce barriers in recruitment, and build stronger, more resilient teams through practical guidance and customized training.

Disability Employment Awareness Month

It’s Time to Rebalance the Labour Market

By Kevin McNichol, CEO, Prospect Human Services

Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) invites us to celebrate progress – and address the important work still ahead.

Despite major investments in employment supports, people with disabilities continue to face a significant employment gap, showing that job-seeker preparation alone cannot rebalance the labour market.

Alberta’s employers can play a key role, turning untapped talent into workforce strength by reconsidering how they recruit, assess, train and develop people. Government can accelerate that change by connecting public investment, procurement and workforce initiatives to meaningful employer participation and measurable outcomes.

For a stronger Alberta, this article makes the case for shared responsibility – and for moving from awareness to action so more Albertans with disabilities have a fair opportunity to work.

Prospect Art Collective

New Retail Store in Edmonton Builds Confidence and Job-readiness

Prospect introduces Prospect Art Collective at Kingsway Mall, a new social enterprise showcasing client creativity while supporting job seekers who face barriers to employment. Our first exhibit, “Rediscovered,” brings long-hidden client artwork into the spotlight and celebrates stories of perseverance, courage, and personal transformation.

The store also provides a welcoming environment where participants build workplace skills, confidence, and experience. Together, the new store and innovative program demonstrate how creativity and inclusive employment supports can help Albertans unlock their potential.

At Prospect, Giving is a Daily Commitment

Here at Prospect, giving is more than a moment – it’s a year-round commitment to helping Albertans build brighter futures through meaningful employment.

With support from staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, Prospect provides free services that connect job seekers with opportunity and employers with the talent they need.

This Giving Tuesday, December 1, your generosity can help sustain programs that reached more than 12,000 Albertans last year and continue strengthening communities across the province. Join Prospect in reducing barriers, creating lasting opportunities, and ensuring more people can reach their employment potential.
