New!

Family Art Time

We invite toddlers and their caregivers to join early childhood educator Anna Ryan in Family Art Time, an exploration of creativity inspired by artwork in the museum. Anna will provide guided experiences focused on visual development, followed by some fun art-making in our family studio which is designed for the youngest artists.

New structure for children's classes

We have modified our children's classes a bit to align with themes and artistic techniques demonstrated by the art on view in the museum galleries. In this way, students will continue to experience the high quality instruction they are used to, with the added benefit of a more experiential and responsive approach. We will still maintain a portfolio and learn the fundamentals of art-making in after school and Saturday classes.

for High School students...

Museum Intensive

meets Thursdays from 4-6pm

In this innovative class, students will spend time in the Danforth Art Museum, learning about the artwork on display, including the techniques and materials used by the artists. Back in the studio, the instructor will lead demonstrations using these techniques and materials, so that students may create a body of work inspired by the artwork exhibited in the museum. This is a unique opportunity to interpret directly from museum artwork, creating personally meaningful art.

High School Drawing & Painting

meets Saturdays from 12:30pm-2:30pm

Working mainly form direct observation, students will explore concepts of color, form, light, and composition while learning about the unique qualities of acrylics and drawing materials. Students will learn basic skills and techniques needed to create strong works for portfolios. This class is perfect for students who enjoy art as a hobby in addition to those pursuing art as a career.
