Breakout Sessions on Social Media, Physician Wellness Highlight Fall Conference
Dynamic breakout sessions on Social Media and Building Wellness Into Your Practice will teach physicians how to take advantage of the latest technologies and increase their joy in practicing medicine. Dr. Anna Marie Hailey-Sharp Becomes a Beacon for Rural Medicine

It's worth reading the article about how family physicians are needed in rural areas, and how the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program is  helping to make it a reality. Dr. Hailey-Sharp completed UMMC and did her Family Medicine Residency at UMMC while taking part in the MRPSP.

Physicians Encouraged to Attend Opioid Addiction Town Hall Meetings

The Mississippi Board of Pharmacy and several other organizations are hosting Opioid Town Hall Rallies throughout Mississippi to bring awareness to communities across our state about opioid abuse and what you can do to help reduce the effects of opioid addiction.
In Mississippi alone, 1 in 10 people misuse prescription drugs and overall prescription drug abuse has surged 400% in the past decade.
MBP and its partner organizations, including the MS Dept. of Mental Health, the MS Bureau of Narcotics, and the Jackson division of the FBI are hosting the rallies and more information is available here.

Medicaid to Host Workshops
Beginning Sept. 19, the Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) will host seven workshops around the state aimed at informing an updating health-care providers about fee-for-service Medicaid.  Each Medicaid Fee-For-Service Workshop will take place from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Here are the dates and cities:

The Medicaid Fee-For-Service Workshops will cover a range of topics that relate to all provider types enrolled in the Mississippi Medicaid program. Representatives with DOM's Office of Provider Beneficiary Relations will provide information on  provider enrollment,  presumptive eligibility,  newborn enrollment,   third-party liability and more.  Providers must RSVP to attend and may do so by completing the Registration Form  or by sending an e-mail to

Free Lunch for Your Clinic Staff? Schedule a Lunch & Learn
The MAFP Foundation, through a grant funded by the Mississippi State Department of Health, Office of Tobacco Control, is offering to all MAFP members a FREE one-hour Lunch & Learn training session for all clinic staff. Learn how to integrate simple tobacco treatment methods into routine patient care. 

The MAFP Foundation has been awarded $94,000 in grant funding for providing these tobacco cessation programs, including Lunch & Learn sessions. Please schedule a Lunch & Learn and help us meet our grant requirements!  Schedule your clinic's Lunch & Learn today!
