ZAP! Electrical Box Mural Project Culminates this Friday!

Join us today, September 10, for art in the making as the ZAP! Utility Box Mural Project comes to Wagner Park from 2 - 7 pm during the Dearborn Farmers & Artisans Market. Watch artists create murals live for public to view.

Out of 24 artist submissions, three were selected to bring their design to life. Artists include: Shadia Derbyshire, a professional muralist and decorative painter in the Metro Detroit area for the last 20 years; Biz Drouillard, a budding artist who has displayed sculpture and worked on murals in Toledo and Sylvannia, Ohio, as well as locally in Royal Oak, Ypsilanti and Chelsea, Michigan; and Becca Simmons, a local employee at Blick’s Art Materials in Dearborn who has created window art displays and is looking to branch out into larger community projects.

This initiative is led and funded by the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (WDDDA) to encourage community pride and beautify the area. Access to public art and artist initiatives in the community is part of the Downtown Dearborn vision to bring the community together and create opportunities for the public to engage in meaningful appreciation of creative expression. The WDDDA worked in partnership with the Padzieski Art Gallery and the Dearborn Community Fund to select the artists and fund the project. Each artist will receive a $1,000 stipend for their work.
