Up to me

Sunday, the ensemble sang, "If it's to be, it's up to me!"  How does it feel to say that out loud?  Lonely?  Overwhelming?  Or empowering and motivational?

John Mayer sang "Waiting on the world to change"; which I kind of want to ask how that's working for him.  When we wait on others to bring peace, end violence and spread love, we are at their mercy.  They do or they don't and we can't control it.  Who is the only person we have control over?  The one in the mirror.

What might happen if everyone, every single one of us, decided to love one another with no exceptions?  However distant or impossible that might seem, it cannot become possible until some of us, individually, make the choice to begin. If peace and harmony are  to become manifest, it's up to me!  Our ULV Vision is to co-create an awakened world of peace, harmony and abundance.  How can we work towards this creation unless we awaken ourselves?  This is the power within us.

One theme that came up in last Sunday's FIRE work was modeling the Unity principles--living the Truth we know.  We already know that if it's to be, it's up to me!

We are the church.  Each and every one of us.  Let us consider how we grow forward in this, our 40th year!                       Reverend Joy

ABUNDANCE PRACTICE
JOURNAL

What exactly is abundance?  It is one of ULV's core values.  It centers us in a feeling of "more than enough", a feeling of contentment  and peace.

Developed by Reverend Joy and formatted and printed by PostNet, journals will be available beginning October 6th for just $10, to benefit ULV.  Journals can be used during the 43 days (begin Oct 20th) leading up to Advent as we traditionally focus on gratitude and thanksgiving.  With writing prompts and space for reflecting on what abundance is and how it shows up in your life, this journal is a journey in abundance consciousness.  There will be a sign-up sheet downstairs to reserve your journal.  Journals can also be used for a Lent practice or as gifts to support anyone's spiritual journey.  Get your journals NOW!

YFM
Changes and Opportunities

Beginning in October we will offer Youth classes downstairs during the service on the FIRST, SECOND and THIRD Sundays.  There will be no classes downstairs on the Fourth or Fifth Sundays.  Youth are welcome to stay upstairs in the sanctuary on those Sundays.

Would you like to become a part of what is unfolding for our YFM program?  Here are some ideas for  you to consider:
1.  Make it a point to learn the names of our youth and speak to them on Sunday.  Follow up on what they report doing downstairs and engage is learning more about their spiritual journey.
2.  Volunteer to lead/coordinate an inter-generational activity.  Family yoga, outside projects in the community, art activities, games... What is your passion and how can we engage all ages in a single activity?
3.  Consider committing to being a "part-time" YFM volunteer on our Sundays.  Whether it is to substitute for an absent regular volunteer or taking on 2 to 6 Sundays a year on a specific date, this supports our regular volunteers to avoid burn-out! This is your opportunity to do an activity you love just with the youth.  Background checks are required but the church can provide if you don't already have one.
4.  Include our YFM program in your daily prayer and meditation practice.

ULV in partnership with LCC

Last spring, The Lehigh Conference of Churches received a grant to help those who have Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This program provides support for those engaged in treatment and recovery to prevent overdose-related deaths. Many of the people being helped have young children or are pregnant and need baby and toddler clothing and supplies for their children.

ULV is collecting  diapers (except for newborn size), formula, baby wipes and shampoo as well as baby and toddler clothing. New or gently used clothing would be welcome. The collection box is inside the doors as you enter from the back parking lot through October 13 .
Thank you to TerĂ© O'Malley for taking on coordination of this service project.

Have you designated your charity on AmazonSmile as Unity of Lehigh Valley?  We appreciate you!

What are you grateful for?
