Beatitudes Garden Groundbreaking
Following last Sunday's Outdoor Children's Eucharist, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Children's Ministry Beatitudes Garden on the Wydown side of the church. Fr. Peter blessed the garden and the children used a special garden tool called a mattock to plant bulbs to bloom in the spring. Participants also decorated stones with a Christian word or symbol and placed them in the garden. Children's Ministry will care for the garden and continue to grow plants that represent the blessings of the beatitudes. Look for it next time you are at CSMSG and watch for our tulips to bloom this spring.

The CSMSG Monday Morning Women's Bible Study group purchased the mattock used in the groundbreaking. It is significant because it was made from melted guns in reference to Isaiah 2:4:

He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

The mattock also was used by members of the Monday Morning Women's Bible Study to establish a peace garden at Sumner High School in St. Louis City.
The Beatitudes Lesson Eleven:
Blessed Are You When...
In this week's lesson, students learn about the ninth blessing and promise of the Beatitudes. They will consider how we may rejoice even when people misunderstand or persecute us. They will receive a challenge to be part of a team that partners with God to bring about love and justice.

Parents may talk with children about how they practice joy as a family. In this beatitude, Jesus says to rejoice when you are persecuted. That is a hard thing to do. But having joy when we are facing hard things keeps us strong. Make a list of things that bring you and your family joy. Try to make space to do one of those things that brings you joy.

Children's book recommendations to accompany this lesson are Let the Children March, written by Monica Clark-Robinson and illustrated by Frank Morrison; Sometimes People March, written and illustrated by Tessa Allen; Wings, written and illustrated by Christopher Myers; and Holy Troublemakers & Unconventional Saints, written by Daneen Akers.

The Beatitudes curriculum packet is available for pick up at the Sunday Outdoor Children's Eucharist. If you are unable to attend but would like arrange to pick up a Beatitudes packet, please email Mary Beth Tipton at
