Crisis Resources for U.S. Citizens in Israel

Asylum Seeker Hiring Business Inquiries

New York State is working to connect asylum seekers who will soon be authorized to work with local restaurants and other employers who want to hire them. As of October 3, asylum seekers from Venezuela are eligible to apply for Temporary Protected Status and Expedited Work Authorization after 30 days. Employers who are interested in considering newly authorized individuals should complete this form, after which a State Business Services Associate will reach out to discuss further. 

SBS Emergency Response Unit

The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) has teamed up with NYC Emergency Management to provide a variety of services to businesses. These include a Business Preparedness & Resiliency Program, Self-Assessment Tool, and Digital Library. NYC Funds Funder for Entrepreneurs

The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) is partnering with Next Street to make affordable financing more accessible to all NYC entrepreneurs, including women and minority-owned businesses. NYC Funds Finder provides custom lists of funding opportunities, including loans and grants, for businesses through partners at the Community Development Financial Institution and other lenders, free one-on-one financial counseling, and help with documentation preparation. Public Survey from the NYC Street Harassment Prevention Advisory Board

Street harassment is unwanted and unwelcome threatening or offensive acts, statements, or behaviors directed at someone in public spaces such as sidewalks, streets, parks, and public transportation. The NYC Street Harassment Prevention Advisory Board (SHPAB) requests your help in taking its street harassment survey and in spreading awareness about the End Street Harassment: A NYC Resource Guide.” The public survey will provide vital information about the frequency and impacts of street harassment across communities in NYC, as well as what kind of resources people are looking for to help prevent and respond to street harassment.

Public Hearing on Proposed Rules Relating to Motorized Micromobility

On Monday, October 16, at 11:00am, the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection will hold a public hearing on proposed rules meant to clarify the definition of an “accredited testing laboratory” in relation to safety standards for powered bicycles, powered mobility devices and their batteries. Senior Resource Fair on October 24

Senator Hoylman-Sigal is hosting a Senior Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 24, 3:00pm - 5:00pm, at the Goddard Riverside Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center (250 W. 65th St., between Amsterdam and West End Ave) in partnership with his colleagues in government. At the fair, participants will be able to receive flu shots, get help with SCRIE and DRIE, learn about available benefits, and sign-up for a variety of programs for older adults. Vendors will include the NYC Department of Social Services, the Department of Finance, DOROT, the Medicare Rights Center, the Met Council on Housing, Housing Conservation Coordinators, the NYC Department for the Aging, AARP, and the MTA, among many others. Reduced-Fare OMNY for Seniors information Session

With MetroCards being phased out in 2024, MTA reps will be sharing information on how to participate in the Reduced-Fare program with the new OMNY system and get help setting up your own OMNY account. Join the event in person on Thursday, October 26, 2:30–3:30 pm at Project FIND Hamilton Older Adult Center (141 W. 73rd St btw Amsterdam and Columbus Ave). Businesses Must Disclose Ticket Costs on All Advertisements

According to § 20-881 of the NYC Administrative Code, event advertisements must include a ticket cost or a range of ticket costs. The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection is now proposing to add a new penalty schedule for failure to follow the law. The public hearing will be on November 6, 2023 at 11:00am. Drafted Zoning Text for City of Yes

As part of the NYC’s Department of Planning “City of Yes for Economic Opportunity,” the agency is proposing a text amendment meant to spur economic activity and enable job growth. The agency has released a draft annotated zoning text in advance of the formal public review process. You can review the draft annotated zoning text, which includes notes to help you better understand the proposed changes to the zoning regulations, as well as this separate document for draft annotated zoning text related to the creation of new Manufacturing (M) Districts. Stay up to date on the changes by visiting the project web page or tuning into the City Planning Commission meeting later this month.
