First Tee Fundamentals:
Post-Shot Routine
Golf can be an inherently frustrating game. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something changes and you feel lost. Even seasoned professionals feel angry and out of control at times. That's where a good Post-Shot routine comes into play. STAR is a great method for helping to control your emotions.
It stands for STOP-THINK-ANTICIPATE-RESPOND.
After a poor shot, take a moment to stop and think about what went wrong. There are many ways to evaluate your shot, from ball flight to the shape and direction of your divot. Understanding what caused the mistake is the first step toward correcting it.
Once you have determined the cause, anticipate what you'll need to do in order to keep from repeating the error. Respond with a positive change to your setup or swing.
You'll probably have more bad shots than good in a typical round, but the STAR method will help you to improve by making fewer mistakes in the long run.
