Giving Wings to Cross-Border Waterfowl Conservation

Welcome Message

In 1989 as a new graduate from Lethbridge Community College I drove to Camrose, Alberta to interview for a summer job with Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC). A summer job of driving around central Alberta completing wetland project inspections with a canoe, water sampling equipment and a set of binoculars had set the path of a 33-year career with Ducks Unlimited Canada.

My passion for waterfowl and wetlands has not slowed. I get excited about the prospect of each new piece of habitat, new Joint Venture Implementation plan and new opportunity at DUC. My home base in Yorkton, Saskatchewan for the past 30 years has gifted me a location to experience the amazing conservation impacts of DUC in the prairie potholes of Canada.

As our company enters its 87th year we continue to experience it evolve but remain an organization of passionate conservationists. This has offered me an opportunity to move from my role over the past 22 years leading our state partnerships program, now Fall Flights, into my role as National Director of Continental Partnerships. While this may mean less face time at Flyway meetings it will allow me to expand my collaborative work in Continental Conservation.

This transition has opened the door to bring Howie Singer into the role of Manager of State Partnerships for DUC, and our lead with the Fall Flights program. I am excited about what Howie brings to this role, with a strong science background and a shared passion for waterfowl it sets the stage for continued commitment to the Fall Flights program and Ducks Unlimited Canada’s commitment to our state partnerships!
