Welcome Message
We often hear about Full Annual Cycle (FAC) bird conservation, but what does it really mean for states? FAC bird conservation is about working with partners to provide birds the critical resources they need through the entire year and across the Hemisphere. For long-distance migrants like shorebirds, this means protecting habitats that span continents – from Canada and the United States to Latin America.
AFWA’s Southern Wings and Fall Flights are helping states advance FAC bird conservation.
-
Fall Flights secures priority waterfowl habitat in Canada that also benefits shorebirds, waterbirds, grassland birds, and raptors before they migrate into or through the U.S.
-
Southern Wings secures essential winter habitat for songbirds, shorebirds, waterbirds, raptors, and species of waterfowl after they depart the U.S.
Together, these programs empower states to make a meaningful hemispheric impact – connecting breeding, stopover, and wintering habitats to support migratory birds every step of the way.
As we head into 2025, let’s build on our successes, strengthen partnerships, and deliver lasting results for the migratory bird species that rely on our collective efforts.
Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with opportunities to make a difference for birds!
