Fall Free Concert in the Park – Oct. 5th - Free Concerts in the Park returns for a fall concert on Thursday October 5th at 6:45PM at Burke Lake Park. I am thrilled to announce this show based on your overwhelming requests for a fall concert. Local favorites The Magic Trio, three Rock 'N' Roll veterans from Northern Virginia, will play all your classic rock favorites! We will also have a summer concert vendor favorite, 2 Silos, available for food and drink purchases. As always, the atmosphere is informal, so bring a picnic dinner, blankets, lawn chairs, and relax with friends and family. I look forward to seeing you there!
Early Voting Starts Friday, Sept. 22nd - If you live in Fairfax County, early voting for the November 7th elections begins this Friday, September 22nd at select voting locations. See the information below from the Office of Elections, including a list of early voting locations. Please pay special attention to the hours of operation for each location as they vary:
 
On the ballot for November 7th: 

  • State offices: Senator, House of Delegates member; Commonwealth’s Attorney.
  • County offices: Board of Supervisors Chairman and Board members; Clerk of the Court; Sheriff; School Board members; Soil and Water Conservation District members.
 
You can confirm your voting precinct using the Department of Elections Citizen Portal to check your voter record. For information on redistricting see the Office of Elections FAQs.  

  • Any registered Fairfax County voter may vote early at any Fairfax County early voting location. ONLY Fairfax County registered voters can vote at a Fairfax County Early Voting location.
  • In-person early voting is available for the November 7, 2023, General Election from September 22 to November 4 according to the schedule below. Three locations will be open beginning September 22 and the remaining locations open on October 28th.
  • If you received a ballot in the mail, but prefer to vote early in person, you must bring it with you and surrender it to vote in person
  • Curbside voting is available for eligible voters
  • Dropboxes are available during satellite operating hours
  • Email earlyvoting@fairfaxcounty.gov with questions about early voting
  • Download an early voting info sheet and schedule to post on bulletin boards.

FCPD Public Safety Cadet Program Applications due on October 2nd

Each year, the Fairfax County Police Department provides incredible opportunities for our youth to engage in public service and learn vital workforce skills through training and workshops. The FCPD Public Safety Cadet Program allows cadets to get a look at the criminal justice system, law enforcement training and exercises, résumé writing and leadership skills experience, and much more. This program also provides a direct pathway for our young adults to become sworn officers and pursue a career in law enforcement.

National Coffee with a Cop Day

In honor of National Coffee with a Cop Day on October 4th, multiple community events will be held to encourage positive and fun interactions between the community and law enforcement agencies. Events like these do a good job of connecting citizens with our first responders to promote open dialogue and to build relationships in a comfortable environment. It has grown in popularity on college campuses around the nation and has become a staple since its founding in 2016.
Our friends with FCPD at the West Springfield Station are hosting an event for National Coffee with a Cop Day at the Starbucks in Huntsman Square, located at 7475 Huntsman Boulevard in Springfield. It will be held October 4th from 1PM to 3PM and is open to all community members. 
Scout Night at West Springfield Station on October 11th

Officers from the West Springfield District Station will be hosting a Scout Night on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. If your den or troop would like to visit the police station and speak with officers, please contact us at the numbers listed below for available times. They will give a presentation to the kids in the community room, a video tour of the station, and then a hands-on tour of the police car outside. Visits are limited to one den/troop every half hour. There are 5:30PM, 6:00PM, 6:30PM, and 7:00PM slots available. If your older scouts need specific requirements for a badge, please contact the station and they can discuss arrangements.

Retiree Appreciation Day
 
On October 27th, Fort Belvoir and the Fort Belvoir Retiree Council will be hosting their annual Retiree Appreciation Day event. This event will feature a session with subject matter experts on TRICARE, AARP, DMV, and more, as well as a health fair with active clinics and a cake cutting at the Exchange. It runs from 8AM to 1PM and starts at the Wells Field House in Building 1810 located at 2104 Goethals Rd on Fort Belvoir. 
The event is only for retired military members and their families. Please note that the retiree ID cards are no longer accepted. The standard entry is by using a REAL ID driver’s license. However, if you do not have a REAL ID, you can use your valid U.S. Passport, along with your valid driver’s license, to get on post.

Beautiful charcoal grey, 1.5-year-old Renee the cat is seeking a relaxing and quiet home to find her bliss. Renee is sweet and may do well as your one and only pet to enjoy all your love. Renee may need a little review of her “kitten training” when it comes to using the litterbox. She is also on special food to help her on her way! Renee is described as “gentle, playful, and likes to nap next to you.” Come meet Renee today!
