Urge the President and your federal elected officials to fight to keep at least $450 billion in for child care and preschool programs.
We need broad and equitable access to safe, quality child care options if parents, especially women, are going to return to work and to get our economy going again. The House of Representatives proposed child care and early learning investment of $450 billion - this must stay in. This funding could serve over 8 million more young children, and make child care affordable for the first time for millions of working parents.

As autumn arrives, children notice changes around them. Take some time to collect some leaves that have changed colors, pinecones that have dropped or acorns for children 3 and over. Allow the children to dip the items in paint and explore the wonderful designs. Painting with natural things allows them to explore patterns and textures, as each item will leave a different trail on the paper.

Homemade wild bird feeders are wonderful ways to feed backyard birds. Great activity if you love bird watching and are looking for a fun way for the kids to get to know which birds are native to your area.
Cut the apples in half lengthwise and hollow out the insides with a spoon or knife. After the center is hollowed out, fill each apple with peanut butter or sun butter and birdseed. Attach a screw or other fastener into the apple and hang with twine from a nearby tree.

Review what your kids are into (before they get into it)
Common Sense media is a tool for parents to use to help them understand the apps, games, movies, books, etc. that their children may want to or are using. It provides reviews and insight on these items such as level of language or violence, etc. Take a moment to check into what your child is exploring (ages 2 to 12 years old)

When possible, children should get the flu shot in September or October. (AAP 2021)
Flu season is just around the corner. All licensed and registered child-care programs, nursery schools, pre-k and school age child-care programs are required to post information about influenza and the benefit of the flu vaccine. This year it is even more important to be vaccinated against the flu. New York State Department of Health guidance regarding flu vaccination in child care was posted September 2021.

NY Project Hope is New York's COVID-19 emotional support helpline. The NY Project Hope team at Family Services of Westchester offers educational presentations, workshops, and peer support groups which provide a safe space for people who have struggled during the pandemic to talk and connect with others.
They have held several virtual and in person peer support group sessions for people of all ages (youth, adults, and seniors) for various organizations (including libraries!) across Westchester which have helped individuals open up about their emotional journeys over the past year. As things start to reopen, the shift to our pre-pandemic lives has brought up mixed emotions and NY Project Hope is here to help the community heal during this transitional time. For more information on this support helpline visit NY Project Hope.
