Buster Day True Pair, Sept 15
This shoot is dedicated to honoring Buster Day. Buster, was an avid hunter and clay shooter. Buster owned the land that Silver Willow is located on, and he was Don's Dad and Josh's Grandpa.
It was a little cool and foggy the morning of the Buster Day True-Pair shoot but the guys were still out in force. We are always happy to see how many shooters come out every year in honor of Buster.
Our High Overall Winner of the Buster Day shoot
was Kevin Cole 175/200. C
ongratulations also goes out to Vic Vickers who was the winner of the Hunter class with a score of 178/200. Way to shoot Kevin & Vic!!!

No Whining - No Crying, Sept 16th
|
This is the second year that Silver Willow has offered this unique 140 target shoot. It is designed to challenge even the most seasoned shooter!! The Blue course was set with some of the most challenging variety of shots possible.
A little blast of snow didn't stop the shooters from coming out and giving Josh's targets a go. Everyone loved the way this course was set up and there were no tears, just big smiles. Lots of compliments on Josh's targets. Very humbling, but all the participants want Josh to continue to host this shoot every year!! T
his year's winner was Tom Stenger with a HOA of 71/140 (51%). Stu Carter came in second with a score of 70/140.

Sharing the Journey
Part 3
Guest Article By Member Rob Ridley
In my first submission, I mentioned my old friend the 870 pump shotgun. I knew that sooner or later, I'd have to replace it - or at least clean it better. < smile> That begs the eternal question of "What shotgun should I buy?" (Spoiler - I'm not going to answer that question.)
Silver Willow's Blog has a very comprehensive article on shotgun selection. When you have a bit more time, check it out, along with the other articles there. While a pump will work, most of sporting clays is done as pairs and that pluming costs you a bit of efficiency between the first and second targets of a pair.

The SMILES BURN CAMP - project came about after a terrible daycare fire accident, in Hermosillo, Mexico, that killed 49 children and left 19 children with severe burns, amputations and years of surgeries. The SMILES project works with the entire family in the areas of therapy, counseling, family support, camps and other special activities. This year the 2018 SMILES BURN CAMP was held in Alberta. During their stay a group of 14 Dad's came out to shoot at Silver Willow on Sept 19th. A lot of the shooters in this group did not speak English and the guides had teach shooting working with an interpreter. We would like to Thank our guides who volunteered their time to go out with this group. Everyone loved it and they are sure it will be the highlight of their trip to Canada.

Graham Construction Crew. |
In August, on one of the hottest summer days, this brave crew, each manned with a spade, planted a 1,000 trees down near the wetland area on Silver Willows north quarter.
We appreciated their kind offer and sincere efforts. We also truly appreciated the rain that came two days later. Here's hoping for good take of the young saplings they planted. Some form of annual tree planting, continues to be an important part of Silver Willows long term goals. A great big thank you to Graham Construction for partnering with us to accomplish this year's goal.

Duck with Honey, Soy and Ginger |
These duck breasts are the nicest I've ever cooked. You'll find yourself putting your knife and fork down between mouthfuls. And it's also very quick and extremely easy to make. I enjoy serving these duck breasts with roasted seasonal vegetables.
Ingredients
Serves:
2
2 duck breast halves
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- ½ cup chicken stock
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice wine
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
- 1 pinch chili powder
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
Directions Preparation:10min ' Cook:30min ' Ready in:40min
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
- Use a sharp knife to score across the duck breasts 4 times through the skin and fat but just barely to the meat. Rub the skin with salt, cayenne, and black pepper.
- Heat an ovenproof frying pan over medium-high heat. Lay the breasts in the pan skin-side down and fry until the skin is brown and crisp, about 5 minutes. Discard any excess fat from the bottom of the pan. Turn the breasts over and cook for 1 minute.
- Place the pan into the oven; roast duck for 15 minutes or until cooked as desired.
- Remove the duck breasts from the pan and cover with foil to keep warm. Remove excess fat from the pan. Add the stock, honey, soy sauce, rice wine, ginger, tomato sauce, chilli powder, and lime juice to the pan. Stir the sauce over high heat, bring to a boil and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. Slice the duck breasts thinly, arrange on serving plates; drizzle the sauce over the top.

When you have shot one bird flying
you have shot all birds flying.
They are all different and they fly in
different ways but the sensation is
the same,
and the last one is as good as the first!"
