Kids Need the Outdoors Now More Than Ever
The Nurture of Nature
has never been more needed. Just being outdoors can ease some of the pandemic's stress and isolation. Kids and families are invited to join us this fall for safe socially distanced outings. Whether your children and grandchildren are learning in class or in front of a screen all day, we all need to feel the sun and wind on our faces, to move our bodies, and to relish the joys and respect the science of the natural world.

Fall Break Adventure Day Camp October 5-9 at the River School Farm in Reno will give elementary school students the chance to explore farm, riverbank, park, and trails. Activities revolve around a different science topic each day, and include crafts, games, and stories. Teaching staff have science degrees, experience working with children, and are background checked. See details & register now on our website.

Enjoy Kids & the Outdoors? Volunteer with us.
We are screening volunteers to help out at Adventure Day Camp and at our Science School Days. Contact us now with resume, cover letter expressing relevant experience and interest, and references.
Join our Family-Friendly Hike at Galena Creek
Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9-11 am. To stay as safe as possible, our group size will be limited by preregistration on our website, using face coverings, and spacing out for distance. We'll have some activities for the kids, and our staff will help familiarize you with some of our local flora and fauna. We'll use our handy pocket field guides to "Tahoe Area Plants & Animals", we'll have some for sale, and we'll provide one per family free with a $10 per person suggested donation for the hike to help support our programs for local children. Please see details and what to bring on our website.

If you can't join our hike in person, you can do your own hike with one of our field guides and support our work with your donation.
Science School is New
and is especially for families who have chosen distance learning for safety but still want to give their kids the chance to learn in small groups outdoors. Registration will be strictly limited for safety. Guest scientists will share their expertise with standards-based activities each Tuesday and Friday morning Sept. 22-Oct. 30, and venues will vary from the River School Farm on Fridays to Oxbow Nature Study Area or Galena Creek on Tuesdays. Hiking games, crafts, stories, and more fun will fill the afternoons. See details and register on our website.
Parents & Teachers,
We continue to develop and share more online activities you can do with your kids at home or school, so check our website.

Plan ahead for winter break day camp Dec. 28-31 and snowshoe and winter ecology days in January and February.
