Where can you find grants? What information do you need to write and submit a grant? This workshop includes tips for researching where to find grants, information needed to apply for grants and an introduction to the parts of a grant proposal. 

Participants will learn:
  • Ways to determine if your project is a good "fit"
  • Sources for where to find grants
  • How to research foundations using the Form 990
  • How to find federal grants
  • Creating a grant file

Writing Grants

Successful grant proposals follow grant guidelines and have compelling needs, goals and objective statements. This workshop will cover the parts of a grant proposal and provide practice in understanding grant guidelines, writing needs, goals and objective statements and understanding the basics of grant budgets.  

Participants will learn:
  • Common grant terms
  • Parts of a grant proposal
  • Understanding grant guidelines
  • Writing needs statements, goals, objectives
  • Developing a cover letter and abstract

Critical Tools for Grant Writing: Logic Models

Logic models are visual descriptions of the grant project plan. They are succinct tools to aid in planning a grant and writing parts of the grant proposal. Many funders are now requiring logic models to be included with the grant proposal. This workshop will provide advance reading resources and sample logic models, illustrating how to use the model to develop effective grant proposals.

Participants will learn:
  • How to use logic models
  • The parts of a logic model
  • How to link the logic model to writing the grant narrative

Critical Tools for Grant Writing: Budgets

Grant reviewers analyze project budgets to judge the project's value, feasibility and credibility. Budgets are a make-or-break section that can determine whether your project is funded. This workshop will review budget terms, identify allowable costs, explain cost sharing and provide examples of grant budgets.
 
Participants will learn:
  • Budget terms and how to understand them
  • Identify direct and indirect costs
  • How to calculate budget match
  • What a budget narrative includes
  • Tips on how to write budgets

Enhance Grant Skills: Reviewing and Critiquing a Grant

What do grant reviewers look for in your grant proposals? Practice reviewing and critiquing grants is an effective way to improve your grant writing skills. In this hands-on workshop, participants will receive a grant and a critique checklist to evaluate the grant proposal, prior to the workshop. In the workshop, participants will join small discussion groups to share their recommendations and reasoning behind their grant critique. Larger group discussions will provide debriefing of key ideas from each small discussion group. Participants will receive written notes with questions and comments.

Participants will learn:
  • How to review the parts of the grant
  • Grant guidelines and proposal requirements
  • How to implement the grant checklist

What are funders looking for when they evaluate grant proposals? How can you make your proposal stand out? What are the mistakes that can get your proposal disqualified? This moderated panel session will provide tips from the experts who evaluate and award grant proposals.

You Got the Grant- NOW WHAT?

Congratulations, you are awarded a grant! These are words all grant writers strive to achieve. But what happens after you get the grant? This workshop will present a moderated panel discussion about the do's and don'ts of grant administration. Presenters will discuss topics including grant assurances, grant reporting, tracking in-kind cost share, managing changes in the project and requesting budget revisions. Presenters will answer the question "What I wish I had known before I got the grant.
