A Newsletter for Nevada County Habitat Homeowners November 2024

A Home for Angela's Family

Angela closed escrow on her Habitat home in Grass Valley on September 11th, 2024, officially becoming Nevada County Habitat for Humanity’s newest homeowner. Angela and her children moved in that day and have now settled into their new home.

Everyone at Habitat congratulates Angela on this milestone, which represents her dedication and perseverance.

Angela expressed the feelings of the whole family, “I am just so grateful to everyone at Habitat who helped bring us home.”

Mike Dent, the Nevada County Director of Child Support, Housing, and Community Service, shared congratulations on behalf of the County: “We wanted to let you know that the team, which is not just Nevada County, but also Grass Valley and Nevada City support this objective. It is one of our goals.” He also represented the Regional Housing Trust Fund (RHTF), a consortium representing Nevada County and the cities of Grass Valley and Nevada City. The RHTF was one of the major donors that made the home possible.

Meet David, the New ReStore General Manager

David Simmons joined the ReStore staff as a Donations Associate and driver last year. In April he was promoted to the Store Manager Position. He has been a valuable addition to the Habitat team and continues to improve the ReStore shopping and donation experience. David is a recent arrival to Nevada County, after spending more than 35 years managing restaurants in the Bay Area.

David and his family love the simpler and more meaningful life and career in Nevada County. David is excited to work for the amazing ReStore staff and the greater Grass Valley Community. When not at work, David loves running around with his 3 dogs, working in his workshop, gardening, and spending time with his wife of 34 years, daughter, and grandson.

  • Remember: Habitat Homeowners receive a 20% discount on all items with colored tags when shopping at the ReStore. (If you need a Homeowner ID card for ReStore shopping contact Kelly at the Habitat office.)

November is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detector and to change your furnace filter or perform the recommended maintenance on your mini-split. And here are some general fall maintenance recommendations from Allstate..
