Ryder Trauma Center Celebrates
Its 30th Anniversary
| |
Since opening its doors 30 years ago, Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial has made an incredible impact on people in our community and beyond, providing a continuum of services including resuscitation, emergency surgical intervention, intensive care, rehabilitation, and outpatient care services. |
In August, executives from Ryder System joined Jackson leaders for a press conference to commemorate the incredible, lifesaving work that has been done at the Level I Trauma Center.
We applaud the surgeons, physicians, nurses, and staff responsible for saving lives and aiding patient recovery. We also recognize the thousands of patients who are celebrating their own milestones this year thanks to the real-life heroes who saved their lives at Ryder Trauma. Thank you for trusting us when the unexpected happens. Click the link to learn more about Ryder Trauma Center.

When Zayne Obileye was 13 months old, doctors in Bermuda detected a large epidural hematoma on the right side of his brain.
He and his mom, Christina Belboda, were airlifted and admitted to Holtz’s Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center to receive specialized care. Zayne immediately underwent a craniotomy, performed by Heather McCrea, MD, PhD, Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Holtz Children’s and UHealth (University of Miami Health System), to remove the hematoma and alleviate the pressure on his brain.
Today, Zayne’s a healthy, energetic 4-year-old boy who is on par with other kids his age and didn’t suffer any developmental setbacks as a result of his injury.

In May 2017, former Miami-Dade Police Major Ricky Carter was riding his motorcycle on the highway when he lost control and crashed into a guardrail.
Good Samaritans, including a nurse and clinical care coordinator at Ryder Trauma, helped save his life by applying tourniquets to control the bleeding. Carter was then airlifted to the hospital where he underwent surgery.
His legs were badly mangled in the crash so surgeons amputated both legs. Now, five years later, Carter is Deputy Police Chief in Miami Gardens and continues to be an inspiration to everyone around him.

Jackson Health Foundation would like to shine a light this month on
Greg Irizarry, our newest board member.
"Getting involved with Jackson Health Foundation is a personal one for our family. Just several years ago one of my family members received a kidney transplant at Jackson and the donor was his son," says Greg Irizarry. "Jackson was instrumental in helping our family during this difficult process and we are eternally grateful to this remarkable organization and it’s committed workforce. Jackson continues to provide exceptional care and service in our community, to everyone. Being part of Jackson is humbling, and allows me to participate in the Jackson experience, changing the world, one patient at a time."
We would like to thank you for all of your support!
