Fall Is Here, Leaves Falling

After a nearly record-dry and mild start to October, fall arrived in full force last week with plenty of rain—and now, leaf-removal season is officially underway!

Our crews will be focused on leaf cleanup throughout November, as they are every fall. We appreciate your patience during the next several weeks, as leaves often fall faster than anyone can collect them.

Fortunately, our teams are equipped for the challenge. Truck-mounted leaf vacuums on most of our vehicles help us remove leaves quickly and efficiently while keeping your properties looking their best.

And don’t be concerned if you see rows of leaves along parking lots or street curbs. To work as efficiently as possible, our crews blow the leaves into areas that can be easily accessed by our truck-mounted vacuums. The leaf piles won’t be there for long—our team will return soon to vacuum them up and complete the cleanup.

One of the biggest seasonal changes that comes with leaf removal is a shift in our maintenance priorities. While we may not be finished mowing for the year, leaf cleanup will take priority throughout the fall.

We closely monitor the weather and site conditions and avoid mowing during extended rainy periods to prevent damage to wet lawns. As a result, some properties may look a little shaggy at times. We appreciate your patience as we focus on leaf removal and take advantage of upcoming dry stretches to complete the final mowings of the season.

To support the overall cleanup effort, we also recommend increasing parking lot sweeping during the fall. Combined with our landscape leaf removal, additional sweeping can help keep your property cleaner during this messy time of year. We are happy to coordinate with your sweeping vendor to ensure our efforts work together efficiently.

Each fall, our crews collect more than 50,000 cubic yards of leaves. That’s enough to fill over 3,000 of our trucks—or cover an entire football field with leaves 20 feet deep!

Fortunately, none of it goes to waste. The leaves are recycled and composted into garden mulch that can be put back to work in the landscape.

While we don’t process the leaves ourselves, we partner with several local composting companies. Composting is their specialty, and their facilities are designed to process this volume efficiently and cost-effectively. It’s a great example of turning seasonal debris into a valuable, reusable resource.
