A Little More Fall, Please.

October is the month when fall finally starts feeling real.

The mornings get cooler. The house suddenly looks like it could use a little warmth. You start reaching for another layer before heading out the door. And somehow, weekends fill themselves with dinners, football, festivals, neighborhood gatherings, and people saying, “Come over — we’re keeping it casual.”

So this month, we're embracing all of it.

We have a new guide to October in downtown Acworth, plus a few ideas for making the season a little prettier, easier, and more welcoming — from what to bring your October hostess to how to give your sofa a five-minute fall refresh.

🩵 Put a Teal Pumpkin on the Porch This Halloween

Here's one little thing that can make Halloween more welcoming for a child with food allergies: a teal pumpkin.

The Teal Pumpkin Project uses a teal pumpkin to let families know that you have a non-food treat available for trick-or-treaters who may not be able to safely enjoy traditional candy.

Think stickers, pencils, glow sticks, temporary tattoos, bubbles or other small treasures.

You don't have to give up the candy, either. Keep both available and let kids choose.

It's a tiny gesture that could make Halloween a whole lot more fun for someone standing at your door.

For the Host Who Said, "Don't Bring a Thing!"

October is prime “come over Saturday” season.

A great hostess gift doesn't need to be expensive or elaborate. It should feel like you thought about the person who did all the work.

From the merchandise we've added recently, we'd lean toward a small decorative or serving piece — especially one of the pretty blue-and-white pieces or a small home accent. Add a little fall greenery or tuck a handwritten note inside and you're done.

Even better? It's something your host can enjoy long after everybody goes home.

The 5-Minute Fall Sofa

You don't have to redecorate your living room because the calendar says October.

Instead, use the 2 + 1 rule:

Start with two pillows that bring in fall through color or texture — warm camel, rust, olive, muted gold, deeper blue, or a botanical print.

Then add one throw with a little texture.

That's it.

You can bring in a small seasonal accent nearby if you want, but you don't need twelve pumpkins marching across the room to prove you know it's fall.

Fall outfit formula featuring a layered cardigan, blouse, jeans, scarf and accessories styled for autumn at Wild Blossoms in downtown Acworth, Georgia.

👢 The Fall Outfit Formula That Almost Always Works

October weather in Georgia can be...confused.

Cool at breakfast. Summer again by 2 p.m. Chilly after dinner.

So instead of dressing for a temperature that refuses to commit, dress in layers you can remove.

Try this formula:

Easy base + lightweight layer + interesting accessory

A simple top or dress becomes much more fall-ready with a jacket, cardigan or overshirt. Add jewelry, a great bag or another accessory with some personality, and you've got an outfit that feels intentional without trying too hard.

The secret isn't piling on more clothes.

It's making every layer earn its place.
