ABOUT The Sailing Center
The MDI Community Sailing Center was first established in 1996. It became an independent non-profit organization in 2007. Located on Clark Point Road in Southwest Harbor, Maine. It offers maritime education and boating instruction to the general public of Mount Desert Island and surrounding coastal communities. It has become an important part of the lives of many people. It is more than just a place to sail. It is a meeting place for both youth and adults to share their love of the ocean, the coast, and the pleasures of boating. Many of the 200 plus youth who utilize the facility each spring, summer, and fall would be at a loss without this affordable, healthy environment in which to interact.

Fall MDI School Sailing Club On Fast Track!
High School and Middle School Sailors have been on the road all fall!

We have had a very busy fall racing season here at the Sailing Center!  The MDI High School Club Team started on September 8 and in these few short weeks has participated in 4 regattas.  On September 19, MDI sailed in two regattas at SailMaine in Portland.  The 420 event went well with MDI claiming 5th place overall out of 15 schools. As for the J22 keel boat race, MDI was 2nd out of 5 boats.  The following week, MDI sailors competed in the Casco Bay Open which was the qualifying event for the Atlantic Coast Championship held this year in Greenwich CT.  Out of 18 schools from all over New England, MDI came in 5th- a very respectable finish.  This past weekend, the team travelled to Burlington VT to participate in the Fall Fleet race hosted by the Northern Vermont High School Sailing Team. Over the course of two days, MDI claimed 9 first place finishes to win the regatta!

Even as we prepare the Sailing Center for winter, we are planning an ambitious end to the club racing season.  This coming weekend, MDI will compete at Portland in the Calendar Islands Regatta, in the Greenwave Classic on October 17, the Bulldog Classic on the 24th and the Ghosts and Goblins regatta on the 31st.   Thus far, i t has been a wonderful season and we would like to thank our sailors and their families for their generosity and support.  We would also like to thank John Macauley for his dedication as Head Coach and The NEH fleet for providing us with an Assistant Coach this fall.  Liana Folger, Program Director at the Northeast Harbor Sailing School has been invaluable in providing hands-on coaching for the team.  Thank you one and all.

Volunteer Workday Planned for Saturday October 17th!
Please come lend a hand and help get the Sailing Center ready for winter
On Saturday October 17th starting at 10:00 am we will be hosting an annual fall workday. Our goal will be to haul all keeled boats and dinghy's and wash and store them for winter.
We currently have 5 Bullseyes, 1 CD Thyphoon and 7 420s to haul. If weather is bad we will move the workday to Sunday the 18th.
We hope to see you all come out and support our efforts. For further information please email info@mdisailing.org
