2015 National Dairy Conference
by Bobby Smith
Sarah Kate Howard (left), Bobby Smith and James Cagle represented Georgia at the 2015 National 4-H Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisconsin.

Nearly 200 youth from 4-H dairy projects around the U.S. and Canada congregated in Madison, Wisconsin, for the 2015 National 4-H Dairy Conference, held September 27 through October 1 in conjunction with the World Dairy Expo. This year Sarah Kate Howard from Lizella and James Cagle from Madison were chosen as youth delegates representing Georgia, and Bobby Smith of Madison served as Adult Leader and chaperone. Youth and adult participants learned about production, processing, marketing and use of dairy products. They developed a broader understanding of careers available in dairy production, biotechnology, genetics, marketing and other areas. The conference consists of participatory workshops on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, dairy industry and farm speakers and tours, and culminates with a visit to the World Dairy Expo.

Youth who have been a 4-H dairy project member for at least three years and are between the ages of 15 and 18 as of January 1, 2016, are encouraged to join us in Madison at 4-H Dairy Conference next fall. Because of overlapping schedules attendees may not exhibit animals at World Dairy Expo or participate in National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest while at National 4-H Dairy Conference.
