City offices will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 4. Offices will open for regular business on Tuesday, September 5.
Due to the Labor Day holiday, trash and recycling pickup will be one day later than the normal pickup day.

Government Services Center
|
The City of Bonner Springs has a contract with SFS Architecture to complete a Government Services Center Building Feasibility Study. On August 10, 2017 the City and SFS Architecture held a Public Input Meeting to discuss the need for the Center, site and concept options, and potential costs of the project. Mayor's Banquet and Tiblow Days
|
The Mayor's Banquet, held on August 18 at the Bonner Springs High School had approximately 160 in attendance. Highlights included the Rotary presentation, the Marion Vaughn Award presentation to John Harrington, and the Mayor's State of the City address which included budget information, project updates, and even a few eclipse facts and jokes mixed in.
Tiblow Days, hosted by the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the City of Bonner Springs and community businesses, took place August 17-19.
The Tiblow Days parade entry winners were:
- 3rd Place - Bonner Sprigns Arts Alliance
- 2nd Place - Elm Grove Baptist Church
- 1st Place - Bonner Springs High School Cheerleaders and Dance Team

City Launches Redesigned Logo and Website

On July 27th, the City of Bonner Springs launched a redesigned website and logo. The new website was designed for increased mobile compatibility and aesthetics.
The new logo was adopted for all departments throughout the City for a uniform look across the departments. The previous round sunflower seal logo was adopted as the City's official seal.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The Bonner Springs Police Department will be set up at the Bonner Springs Price Chopper, located at 501 Commercial Drive, Bonner Springs, KS to collect expired, unwanted, and unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction.
Officers will be available at the collection site to answer questions and will provide educational information about the potential for abuse and medications.

Storm Debris Clean Up
The Public Works Department would like to extend a big
“Thank You”
to the residents of Bonner Springs for your collective efforts after the big storms we sustained recently. The Public Works Department incurred over 1,055 hours of labor and collected over 7,000 cubic yards of tree debris throughout the city. We appreciated your patience and assistance throughout the storm clean-up!
As a result of all of the debris, the City has free untreated mulch available at our Public Works facility at
12401 Kaw Drive during the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The yard waste/recycling center drop off location at 3241 Park Drive in Kansas City, Kansas, returned to its normal business hours on Thursday, August 24, 2017. The center is now open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm.

There are three separate tumbling classes: Preschool (3 - 5 years old), Beginner, and Intermediate / Advanced on Monday nights. Each session is five weeks with a parent watch night during week five. - September 12 – Fall Men’s Softball Deadline – BSPR offers four sessions of adult slow pitch softball. There is weeknight’s men’s league and a Sunday co-rec league. Teams play doubleheaders with 10 games guaranteed per season. Players must be 16 years of age or older to be eligible to play. Single elimination tourney will begin the following week after the regular season is completed. Season begins Monday, September 18th. More Info
- September 13 – Youth Volleyball Registration Deadline – Focus on fundamental skills, fun, participation, and social interaction throughout practice and organized games. Practice begins the week of October 2 and games begin October 14th. Teams will not be formed till after the deadline. Parents will hear from a coach after the coaches meeting. More Info

1,000 Books Before
Kindergarten Program
Starts Tuesday, September 5th
Sign your child up for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program starting Tuesday, September 5th! The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten. If you read just one book a night, you will have read 1,095 books in three years! Sign up at the Library to collect your folder and reading logs and start reading! We will also have a kickoff party on Thursday, September 14th at 6:30 pm.

Gerald Trimble and Jamboroque

Gerald Trimble and Jamboroque will perform a concert immediately following the library's annual reception in appreciation of library volunteers. Jamboroque features 300-year-old instruments such as the viola da gamba in lively, modern arrangements. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Senior Center is open to seniors 55+ years of age. We offer programs in recreation, health, education, and crafts. We are open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Transportation to the Senior Center is available through the Tiblow Transit service in Bonner Springs (913-422-5355).
Activities include weekly outings, monthly educational presentations, exercise classes, dinner theater trips, bingo and free legal services. We have a wide variety of activities for all interests and abilities. Please stop by the Senior Center or call 913-441-0169.

Citizen’s Nancy Jones-Johnson Scholarship Fund Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, August 4.
We served approximately 300 customers.
We netted $1,500.00 The spaghetti was
delicious and the desserts were outstanding.

Seniors Tutor Elementary School Students

Beginning September 12, and continuing every Tuesday for the school year 2016-2017, the seniors will tutor the 2nd graders at the Bonner Springs Elementary School.

Our children are back in school. Keep them safe and please drive with extra caution around school zones and bus routes.
