Welcome from Principal Lobaugh

Greetings family, friends, and supporters of The Foundation School of Montgomery County! It’s hard to believe we’ve already completed the first quarter of the 2025–2026 school year. The past few months have been filled with excitement and connection as our students participated in memorable field trips, engaging academic activities, a lively Spirit Week, and a variety of festive fall events. These experiences have not only enriched learning but also strengthened our sense of community as we continue to grow and learn together.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Our school came alive with color, music, and flavor as students and staff celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month! We kicked off the festivities with refreshing raspados, sweet Mexican shaved ice that everyone loved on a warm day. Each day brought something new, from friendly rounds of Hispanic Heritage trivia to a spirited dance-off that had the whole room cheering. The celebration culminated in a delicious luncheon, where the aroma of pupusas, flan, tacos, and other traditional dishes filled the air. It was a joyful week of learning, laughter, and community as we honored the diverse cultures and traditions that enrich our school family.

Test yourself to see if you know the answer to this Hispanic Heritage Month Trivia Question: What US state used to belong to Mexico before it became part of the United States? A. Florida  B. Alaska   C. Texas   D. Hawaii

Stream Study

Our biology students brought science to life with a hands-on stream study at Brookside Gardens! After learning how to test the pH of water samples in class, they headed outdoors to put their skills to the test. Armed with test tubes and curiosity, students collected water straight from the stream, analyzed it, and compared their results to a colorful pH chart. It was a fun and memorable way to turn classroom learning into real-world discovery!

Fall Fun!

We wrapped up the first quarter with two exciting fall events that brought plenty of smiles and laughter!

First, a group of students headed to Summers Farm in Frederick, MD, where they enjoyed a day full of autumn fun. Students met farm animals, took a scenic hayride, and, of course, picked the perfect pumpkins. Everyone had a blast and is already looking forward to next year's trip.

Next, we celebrated together at our Fall Festival, welcoming students and their families for an evening of chili, games, and a festive harvest treat trail. It was a wonderful time to connect, share good food, and enjoy the warmth of our school community.

Staff Recognition

Newcomer Staff of the Quarter: Ms. Pitts

We have selected Ms. Arianna Pitts as our Newcomer Staff of the Quarter for the First Quarter.  Ms. Pitts joined us as a dedicated aide in April last school year. She came to us with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and a clear desire to help our students. She is a quick learner, always reflecting on what she does and looks for advice on new ways to handle situations. She is willing to work with any student and adapts her interventions to meet the needs of each one.

Congratulations to Ms. Pitts!

Staff of the Quarter: Ms. Wims

We have selected Ms. Crystal Wims as our Staff of the Quarter for the First Quarter. Ms. Wims joined us in February 2022 as a dedicated aide and continues in that role now. Ms. Wims has grown tremendously in her time here at The Foundation School of Montgomery County. She is the epitome of teamwork and flexibility - willing to do anything we ask of her with any student at any time.

She thoughtfully intervenes with each student and is a relied upon support to her co-workers in any situation. She goes out of her way to help each person around her (staff and students alike) get through each day in the best possible way.

Congratulations to Ms. Wims!

Happening Now: The 2025 Holiday Fundraiser

Looking for a meaningful way to give back this holiday season? Our Holiday Cheer Drive for The Foundation School of Montgomery County is officially underway! Together, we can bring warmth, comfort, and joy to students who need it most.

We’re aiming to raise $2,000 to support 25 incredible students with emotional disabilities, ensuring they and their families have the essentials and a few special gifts to brighten their holidays.
