Letter from the President

LCPOA Members,

Leaves are changing color; boats and docks are out of the water…where did the summer go? Hard to believe it’s over, but what fantastic weather we were able to enjoy, along with the many local events to keep everyone entertained.

The Lake Camelot Property Owners Association (LCPOA) was super busy this past summer. To start, we had the grand opening of the expansion of The Lodge on Lake Camelot. From a new food menu, more TV’s, more space and a new outside patio, The Lodge on Lake Camelot has been super popular and we’ve received rave reviews! No doubt we had some growing pains, but the team has managed the changes effectively. Overall, with the projected increased revenue, the association will be able to look at additional capital projects as it has in the past, with the addition of the Pavilion, playground, and boat docks, just to name a few.

The shoreline restoration project was also completed this past summer. The project will help protect the shoreline from future erosion and continue to provide a nice swimming area for members and guests to enjoy.

One other project — championed by Tri-Lakes — was the installation of the nano bubbler near the 8th Avenue boat launch. The success of the nano bubbler is still pending with some scientific data, but feedback from members boating on lower Camelot has been very positive.

I would also like to thank those who donated by purchasing a brick to complete the commemorative wall below the south windows of The Lodge. It’s been great to hear the positive comments and to see people looking for their brick and message, which will have a permanent spot on the wall for a lasting memory!

And last, but certainly not least, thank you to all the volunteers who helped with Firewise projects this year. Significant progress was made in the Walden area and along Kingsway. Removing dead trees and brush will continue to be a challenge to protect our environment and homes against fire. As we move into 2026, we will need even more help with Firewise volunteers and donations to continue to clear common areas and beach clubs.

Have a great winter, and I hope to see everyone in the spring.

Warm Regards,

Don Dodd

LCPOA & MEMBER SERVICES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We are excited to share that the changes we introduced earlier this year have been a success! Our shift to electronic communication and invoicing has gone smoothly, and members have enjoyed the added convenience. We will continue to expand and improve these systems, including making updated member lists available for each beach club. We will also continue adding more member information to our website for easier access. If you have not been receiving our electronic communications, please contact the office to update your information so we can be sure you’re included.

Looking ahead, 2026 season invoicing will be sent via email on April 1st. Once payment is received, you will automatically receive the private launch code with your receipt by email. Please make sure you have a current email address on file, so you don’t miss these important updates.

UPDATE: Some years ago, LCPOA offered to install and remove piers for a couple beach clubs. Going forward, we will no longer be able to offer this service as we do not have the proper manpower or equipment to perform this work safely and without risking damage to the piers. If your beach club has relied on this in the past, you will now be responsible for arranging installation and removal either through a private company or by organizing beach club members to assist. Thank you for your understanding.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are looking for 2–4 volunteers from each beach club to assist with general maintenance and/or to serve as Concierge Contacts for their location. These volunteers will help with mowing, communication, coordination, and sharing updates among fellow beach club members.

Your participation is an important part of keeping our shared spaces safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone. Volunteers will also receive incentives as a thank-you for their time and effort in helping support their beach club.

If you’re interested in lending a hand or taking on a concierge role, please contact the office for more information. Your involvement truly helps strengthen our community and supports the upkeep of our beautiful beach clubs!

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make our community stronger and more connected.

Respect for Our Shared Spaces

As a friendly reminder, our beach clubs, out lots or green spaces, are shared property owned collectively by the members within each subdivision. These areas are meant to be enjoyed by everyone in that subdivision — not treated as personal property.

In recent months, we’ve received many concerns about a lack of respect for these shared areas, including:

• Excessive ATV and vehicle use on green spaces and beach clubs

• Using the green space as your own private area

• Personal property left behind on community property

• Oversized or excessive use of space for personal docks and lifts

Please remember — no one member has exclusive rights to these shared spaces. We ask that everyone be mindful, respectful, and courteous so that all members within your subdivision can enjoy these areas equally.

Our community thrives when we all do our part to maintain the beauty, fairness, and shared enjoyment of Lake Camelot.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued pride in keeping our lake community welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

A FOREVER MEMORY AT CAMELOT

As many of you have seen, our memory wall is now complete. A HUGE THANKS to, Kyle Shantz Masonry, it turned out AMAZING!

FISH HABITAT 2025

On October 1st 2025 the DNR stocked 4000 walleye. They divided it up equally between upper and Lower Camelot. Lake Sherwood also stocked 2100 Walleye. We are continually working on Fish stick permits from the DNR for the Walden Area off of Hwy D. The timeline installing them is January-February, weather permitting. We have a possibility of stocking an additional 2000 Walleye in Lake Camelot next year. This would need to be funded by the Fish Habitat Fund.

This fall we had a fish crib floated to the surface off of Appleby Beach club. It was remove by the Rome Fire Dept and disassembled and removed from the Beach Club. This is the second one in Lake Camelot in a year. We are looking at the possibility of hiring Certified Divers to inspect the existing cribs to ensure they are secure.

We Plan on having a Annual meeting with the DNR and Lake Sherwood and Lake Arrowhead in January. We will announce the date later.

FIREWISE

Firewise Program Update

The LCPOA Firewise Program could not and would not exist without the incredible support of our community and dedicated volunteers.

In 2025, we successfully completed five Firewise workdays, covering approximately three to four acres of heavy dead and downed trees and brush. With the help of our hardworking volunteers and C & S Skidsteer Services, we made significant progress in reducing wildfire risks throughout our community.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to lend a hand — your time and effort truly make a difference in keeping Lake Camelot safe and beautiful!

Winter 2025 for the 14 Mile Watershed

2025 has been a busy year working for the benefit of our lake’s region and the entire 14 Mile Watershed (from Plainfield all the way through to Lake Petenwell). Tri Lakes has had its first full season of nano bubblers and the testing that goes with it, and we, at the 14 Mile Watershed Alliance, have been hard at work on our lake water testing now for over a decade.

Of great importance to the future health of the lakes is the ongoing testing using biochar bags in a cove on Lower Camelot. In its second year, these tests are focused on proving their effectiveness in our area, to prove what is already known in other parts of the country – that biochar can help reduce the nutrients, nitrogen, and phosphorus in our water.

We have expanded our reach further into the watershed by assisting with the creation of a farmer-led watershed group - we are now the fiscal agents for the Farmers of the Fourteen Mile Creek – to help them continue their protection of the waters of the watershed. Yes, you read that right! Continue. Recent information from area farms shows that some have been successful in reducing their use of nitrogen and phosphorous up to 30 % over the last 10 years. All of this has happened while also increasing yields by double digits. In discussions with our farmers, they want to use less of these nutrients, and we are going to work with them to help find the right methods, help them keep these nutrients on their farm, and find the funding to do this. Our support of this farmer-led group in our watershed, including sourcing available grant funding from the state of Wisconsin, will focus on abatement activities of nonpoint water pollution. Our testing and the data recovered are key values that will allow us to bring this funding home to Rome to help solve these problems.

We are currently awaiting the results of numerous grant requests that will increase this activity in 2026. Your support of our 14 Mile Watershed Alliance is one way you can help. Check us out at 14MileWatershed.org.

Tri-Lakes Update

As we close out the 2025 initial season for the Nanobubble program, we are starting to get preliminary results from UWSP. While their analysis isn’t complete, our engineers, EOR, explained that the results so far are as expected. The phytoplankton and other organisms are thriving without any adverse effects, the oxygen levels in the test areas are elevated and sediment has been reduced. We are also getting anecdotal reports of much better water clarity as well but again; we’ll wait for the analysis from UWSP.

Currently we have 9 NEO units running with the 10th unit expected to come online on 9/22. We’ll be winterizing all the machines early October and will startup early spring, sometime after ice out. The container will be moved, and we are waiting to hear if our proposed site is acceptable.

By the time you read this all 7 harvesters will be pulled from the lakes and winterized. Our final weed weight isn’t yet available but will be close to 2 million pounds.

Biochar samples have been collected and sent to the lab for analysis. If the results are warranted, the Tri-Lakes board may purchase product for in the spring of 2026.

Thank you and have a great remainder of 2025!

Woodland Community Quilters

meet at Woodland Lutheran Church (280 14th Ave) on Mondays from 9 – 2. We enjoy working together on quilting projects, as well as socializing with others while we work. We sent 236 quilts to Lutheran World Disaster Relief and Homeless in Sugar Creek, and 108 quilts were donated to local charities such as Faith in Action, Family Center, Angel Tree, NorthStar, Love Inc, Villa Pines Living Center, Farmers Market and several fundraisers (Tee off for the Girls and American Legion). Due to decline in member’s, we only completed 362 Quilts during 2025. You do not need to be a seamstress to help as we have many various jobs to help complete a quilt. We love welcoming new member to help us complete our mission of keeping our neighbors warm. More hands make more quilts! The Quilters can use donations of clean sheets, mattress pads, blankets, thread, yarn and fabric. These items can be dropped off any morning M – F, when the church office is open. We invite you to drop in on a Monday to see us in action. Our moto is “Come when you can and leave when you must”. We appreciate the support we receive from our community. Call Julia Francis at 608-334-1224 if you have any questions.

ROMEMAKERS H.C.E.

Romemakers are an active community group. With service projects, collections for needy, education seminars, and social events, we have something going on all the time.

Romemakers and the Rome Fire Department had a free educational event on proper use, safety precautions and limitations of fire extinguishers on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Chief Mark Kane shared vital information to make our homes a safer place for ourselves and visitors. Participants learned...

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

The Lester Public Library of Rome is a small but busy library located on Rome Center Drive (by Nekoosa/Port Edwards Bank). It is much more than a place to get books; the library offers something for everyone, and events are planned for most days of the week.

An active Friends of the Library group works with the library’s friendly staff to create programs and activities for residents in Rome and the surrounding communities. If you would like to take part in the fun and help with events, it is easy to join; just ask at the circulation desk. It is a great bargain, too, with dues at only $5.00 a year.

We welcomed many guests to the library’s 25th Anniversary Celebration on August 8. Visitors learned about the library and its history, toured the lovely gardens and enjoyed food and entertainment. Another celebration of the library’s anniversary is planned for Friday, December 5 from 2:00-4:00. Watch the library’s Facebook page for further details.

In honor of Jeanne Osgood’s longtime volunteer service to the library and to recognize her work to make the storybook area behind the library a reality, the area was named Jeanne’s Tale Trail. The trail’s focus is to expose children to examples of classic children’s literature as they explore the trails that wind through the natural, wooded area behind the library. Stay tuned as we discuss further plans for the trail, and in the meantime, bring your children and grandchildren to explore the trail when it reopens next spring.

This year’s Scarecrow Walk asked participants to make their favorite fairytale-themed scarecrow creation. The scarecrows were displayed along the walking paths behind the library. People were invited to stroll through the not-so-spooky forest and then vote for their favorite scarecrow. Cash prizes were awarded by the Friends of the Library for 1st-3rd place.

On Friday mornings from 9:15-10:30, the Friends invite all community members to meet by the fireplace in the library. Enjoy coffee or tea, treats and wonderful conversation. Bring along a friend; all are welcome!

The next Friends of the Library meeting is scheduled for January 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. Please join us as we begin planning our annual Fat Tuesday Chocolate Celebration to be held on Tuesday, February 17.

The mission of a Friends Group is to support the library and to spread the word about how beneficial it is to our community. We are fortunate to have this library in our town.
