THE 1920S LAWN PARTY

Transported to the Roaring Twenties on a sensational summer evening, our recent 1920s-themed lawn party was an unforgettable experience, thanks to our dedicated community. Despite weather challenges, the event captured the essence of the Roaring Twenties. Talented vendors meticulously crafted an authentic 1920s ambiance, generous sponsors believed in our mission to preserve Kennebunkport's history, and unique items from auction donors raised crucial funds for maintaining our historical collection. Dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and incoming and outgoing board members contributed their expertise. Enthusiastic ticketed guests added an extra layer of excitement. We've compiled a collection of candid and delightful photographs from the event, vividly reflecting the joy, laughter, and timeless style that defined the night.

|
We are delighted to welcome three exceptional individuals to our Board of Directors, each bringing a unique blend of experience, dedication,
and a profound connection to Kennebunkport's heritage.
Please join us in welcoming them to our community.

Diane's roots in Kennebunkport run deep, with a lineage that traces back to pioneering grandparents in Biddeford. Her childhood summers at Goose Rocks Beach with her grandmother fostered a strong connection to the community. Diane's father's legacy as a selectman and Historical Society President holds significance. Her diverse nursing career, including Air Force service, has equipped her with valuable skills. Diane's passion for preserving Kennebunkport's heritage, enriched by her personal experiences, fuels her advocacy for our town's legacy.
|
|
A lifetime member of the Kennebunkport community, Sarah has served on various town committees and has a career in Senior Living, where she developed connections and aided transitions. Fond memories of her mother's role as a docent at the Nott House and her father's community involvement inspired her to join the KHS Board. When she's not contributing to the community, you can find Sarah mowing her lawn, riding her horse Milo, or enjoying winter adventures with her 11-year-old stepson.

Raised in Kennebunkport, Phyllis has deep roots in the Kennebunks, with family ties to the hotel industry and summers spent at the historic Casey House. A former humanities and social sciences associate professor, Phyllis now serves as the director of education at The Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design. Her childhood memories of the Historical Society, including winning a blue ribbon at a flower show, reflect her long-standing connection to our organization.

FROM THE ARCHIVES: A TREASURE TROVE OF HISTORY
In a remarkable gesture, we were recently honored to receive a collection of boatbuilding tools once owned by Clem Clark, one of Kennebunkport's last boatbuilders. This generous gift was presented by Gary Eaton, a member of an old Cape Porpoise family. We wasted no time in adding these invaluable artifacts to the display at the David Clark Shipwright office on our Town House Corners Campus. The toolbox itself is a work of art, boasting numerous compartments and intricate moving parts. Moreover, Tom Bradbury has generously initiated donations from his family's collection, with Historian Sharon Cummins meticulously sifting through notebooks, diaries, photographs, and more in search of treasures that vividly reflect Kennebunkport's storied past. These acquisitions enrich our collection and honor the legacy of our town's history. We are truly humbled and privileged to have these important pieces of history within our care.
