Long Beach Sustainability Fall Newsletter, September 2023
LB Sustainability Quarterly Newsletter
Dear Friend,

Each quarter we create a newsletter to update the community on sustainable programs, projects, and events in the City of Long Beach. We invite you to participate and engage in these opportunities to advance environmental stewardship, support local sustainability practices, and create a more livable and resilient Long Beach!
5th Annual Ranchos Walk
Join us for the 5th Annual Ranchos Walk to experience the beauty of Long Beach's urban habitats through this year's native plant theme! Participants will follow the crest trail that links Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos, choosing between the 9-, 6-, or 3-mile hike options. Shuttle services will be provided along the route with multiple available stops. The post-walk celebration at Rancho Los Alamitos will feature music, games and activities, and lunch.
Zero Emissions Day
Zero Emissions Day is an international day of action that promotes the use of sustainable sources of energy for everyday activities. Residents are encouraged to participate by using a zero-emission mode of transportation to travel to local libraries and parks as well as other day-to-day activities. We encourage you to plan your trip on foot or by bike, public transit, e-scooter, bike share, or electric vehicle and post about your experience using the hashtag #LBClimateAction. The Office is also hosting a pop-up event at Willow Springs Park on September 21 from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. Park visitors are invited to stop by our booth for sustainable resources and giveaways!
California Clean Air Day
California Clean Air Day (October 4, 2023) is a state-wide day of action to educate the public about air pollution and its direct impacts on health. The Tree Planting Program aims to help mitigate these negative health impacts by providing free street trees to neighborhoods throughout Long Beach. Apply for and schedule a tree planting in your neighborhood through the application on our website.
Restoration Fridays
We invite the community to Willow Springs Park for Restoration Fridays to help tend to our beautiful restoration area. Meet us every second Friday from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Longview Point in Willow Springs Park to assist with various tasks such as watering and tending to native plants, pulling invasive species, picking up litter, mulching, and maintaining the trails.

Parking is available at 2745 Orange Ave., Long Beach, CA 90806, or you can use Long Beach Transit’s Trip Planner to plan your route to the park using public transit.

Please be mindful of park conditions and the weather; don't forget to prepare by applying sunscreen, wearing comfortable shoes, and bringing water.

Invite your friends to help us steward Willow Springs Park, volunteers will be entered in a prize giveaway!
