Student Spotlight -
Amanda Marbut

Amanda discovered Sonoran Glass School during our 2019 Pumpkin Fiesta, and it was love at first sight! A life-long crafter who has tried her hand at weaving, macrame, candle-making, and card-making, glass has captured her imagination in a way that few other things have. She is enchanted by the role that chemistry and physics play in working with glass, and she has found endless ways to experiment.

Amanda has taken classes in the Warm Shop and the Hot Shop (including the semester-long class!), and she kept busy during the pandemic with our Glass at Home projects. Most recently, she has joined the SGS staff as a studio tech in our Warm Shop (see below).
New Staff Members at SGS

You may have noticed some new faces around the school! Top row, above (l-r), Amanda Marbut and Lexy Scott have joined us as studio techs, while Lauren Steinert (bottom left) has returned to the Hot Shop after a summer away. We are also thrilled to welcome Dennis Treadwell (lower right) as our new Director of Development and Marketing.

Please be sure to say "hello" next time you see them. You can read more about their talents, interests, and accomplishments on our Staff page.
Thank You!

We spent much of our summer break rebuilding our main furnace. The Hot Shop crew took everything apart, used custom molds to re-cast the refractory material, and then put it all back together. These repairs will improve the quality and consistency of our glass and add several years to the life of our equipment. In addition, we installed air conditioning in the Warm Shop and will be making Cold Shop improvements as well.

We'd like to thank the Margaret E. Mooney Foundation and Pamela Amanna for making this work possible.
