Heroes In Transition 9th Annual Fall Gala
|
|
Come join us for a night to celebrate the great work Heroes In Transition has done over the past year to support our veterans, military families, and service members through its programs.
For so many veterans, their service has been made at great personal cost. Returning home with physical and psychological trauma can be utterly debilitating, making “normal” life seem unattainable
. Funds raised from our Fall Gala will go to support programs that will ensure their well being throughout the years. Your support is crucial, we hope you can join us on

Why We Are Here...
Captain Eric Jones
|
Captain Eric A. Jones, United States Marine Corps, was born on April 12, 1980 in Mount Kisco, NY to Kenneth and Cynthia Jones. Canine Co- Pilot Program (CCP)
|
HIT’s three-tier dog program provides service dogs from Assistance Dogs International (ADI) Accredited schools, therapy dog training through the Companion Animal Program (CAP), and prescribed pets that provide a comforting and calming presence at home.
Thanks to the funding from PriceWater House Cooper, HIT was able to donate funds to
K9 for Warriors
to
train a service dog. We proudly named him
“Cooper”.
HIT accepted two applicants into the program this summer. CCP placed 2 dogs (Annie and Buster) with the two Veterans from a reputable Massachusetts rescue group. Both Veterans and dogs have completed their obedience 1 training and have begun their level 2 training.

HIT Has Been Busy This Summer!

Upcoming Couples Gathering
Our Couples Gathering Program provides military couples an opportunity to meet others who share in the unique bond of being in the service.
Our gatherings allow couples to meet others who share the same background. Each month, HIT provides different outings and activities. Yoga, sailing, meditation, corn hole tournaments, and outings to Providence’s Waterfire are just a few examples. Dinner at a local restaurant culminates each gathering.

Families In Transition
(FIT)
FIT is a week long equine therapy summer program for military and veteran families.
We added a second session this year due to the increase in enrollment. We proudly serviced sixteen military and veteran families this summer.
We had the pleasure of introducing Dr. Marie Bartram to our staff, Marie works along with Richard Bickford, LICSW.
Working with the horses brought families together, while there was time for the adults to bond separately.
The culmination of each week was a sharing of family shields with a smore’s ending.
We are grateful to Jan Foster and the staff at Smithfield Farms for all the preparations for horseback riding. We would also like to thank Kerry Bickford of Military Outreach of Cape Cod, our partner in FIT.

The BIG FIX
Heroes In Transition is proud to have played a major role in this year’s Housing Assistance Corporation’s (HAC) BIG FIX.
This year, six of the 18 Harwich residents selected for home repair were veterans. HIT funded all materials for these homes. The veteran recipients were so very grateful and humbled by our contributions to their needed repairs. We were honored to have helped veterans from all branches and two veteran widows.
This home shown above is owned by
U.S. Army
veteran Robert Perry. Volunteers did extensive work in his yard. Among those volunteering at the home was Sean Plummer who has participated in previous
