| | National Fire Prevention Week is October 5-11, 2025 | | |
A fire is raging through your home, apartment, or business. You feel the heat. The thick black smoke burns your eyes. The smell is unmistakable. The alarm blares, warning you of imminent danger.
The signs of a fire are obvious and urgent. But what if the deadliest threat gives you no warning at all?
As we observe National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month this November, Safe Kids Grand Forks is urging the public to recognize the silent and invisible threat of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, which claims hundreds of lives and sickens thousands each year across the U.S.

Did you know that kids are two times as likely to be involved in a pedestrian incident on Halloween than any other day of the year? While the holiday can provide lots of fun and entertainment, there are also some inherent dangers associated with trick-or-treating. We are blessed to live in a community and region that has embraced alternative events to the traditional door-to-door style trick-or-treating, usually creating a much safer environment for the kids.
Safe Kids Grand Forks has created a Facebook event to put all of these events in one place. So, if you are looking for places to take your kids to celebrate, this is a great go-to location.
Check them out and if you are aware of any kid-themed events going on that are not listed from around our community and region, please send us a message and we will get them added to our list!!
Happy Halloween one and all and let’s do our best to keep it a safe holiday season!!
The events can be found on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/share/17HcQq91KM/
| | Unique Child Passenger Safety Needs on School Buses | | |
Safe Kids Grand Forks serves as the training lead for North Dakota Child Passenger Safety on School Buses. This training is so important, considering many children may be unable to ride safely on a school bus without some sort of occupant securement system. This would include very small kids—infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, children with developmental or sensory needs and challenges, children who use wheelchairs, etc.

The Be SMART campaign was launched in 2015 to promote responsible gun ownership in order to reduce child gun deaths. Whether you're a gun owner, or you know someone who owns a gun, there is a role for everyone in the conversation around secure gun storage. Be SMART is a framework that parents, caretakers, and community leaders can follow to help keep their communities safe. Intimately, you can help prevent kids from accessing firearms by storing them securely and encouraging others to do the same. Because children deserve to feel safe, no matter where they are.
