The Artful Garden Gift Shop
by Melissa Roombos, Manager
It’s camellia season! One of my very favorite times!! Seeing the buds still holding tight yet peeking out a hint of color makes me excited! And we thoroughly enjoyed all the nice folks who visited us from the Gulf Coast Camellia Society – we hope they will come back soon!

This coming weekend is our Fall Plant Sale, and we will have Jan Johnson in the shop sharing her talents with painting pumpkins. Costumes are welcome, and we will have treats for all who visit!
We have really pretty items for you to use in your fall decorations – handblown glass, stained glass, textiles, metal art items, and more!

We are also receiving some early Christmas art items – hand etched and painted gourd ornaments from Lucuma, hand stitched felt ornaments from Anne Rose, and hand loomed towels from Charlynn Will. Plus, we are expecting a delivery this week from Garden Deva of their whimsical metal art.

The weather is perfect, so please spend some time walking the Gardens, having lunch with us, and visiting our shop!

Our hours are Wednesday through Saturday, from 10-3, and Sunday from noon-3.

Hope to see you soon!
FIRST FRIDAY
Welcome Back the Bees!
November 4th presentation at 1:30PM
Our new beekeeper Veronica Culberson, along with her father, Dr. Donald Culberson, Professor of Entomology and other biologies at Spring Hill College, will discuss the importance of all insects, especially the diversity of our native pollinators and how humans use honeybees as livestock to help us grow foods. We will see how a honeybee colony works, investigate the hive equipment and tools beekeepers use to tend them and learn some fun bee facts! We will even have a honey tasting to experience the different flavors produced by different flowers and regions.

Registration is required to attend (see link below). This presentation is free for MBG Members, regular admission for nonmembers.

Veronica Culberson , aka “Honey Hill,” is a seasoned beekeeper with Honey of the Hill Apiaries located in and around Mobile Al. She is committed to educating the community on the plight of our local pollinators and the basics of common sense organic beekeeping. Look for her beehives atop Magnolia Hill on your next visit to Mobile Botanical Gardens, and check her out on Facebook, Instagram and at www.honeyofthehill.com
