Fall Sports

Varsity Football

The Varsity Football Team traveled to Milwaukee Vincent to open up the playoffs on the road. The Homestead Highlanders started fast and never stopped, getting out to a huge first half lead and continuing to dominate on both sides of the ball to finish the game 49-0.

The Homestead Defense got their second consecutive shutout powered by linebackers Drew Wilson, Brendan Kurtin and two first half interceptions by Jackson Names and Griffin Bowers.

The offense had huge runs by Jack Read [who scored on two runs], Dominic Bruno [who scored one] and Will Van Laanen to pace the Homestead offense in the first half.

The special teams also got a boost when Sophomore Tommy O'Hagan returned a punt for the games second score overall.  Senior Joel Hollis found the end zone as well to close things out in the first half and make it 35-0.

Some young players also found some time in the second half and had success as well. Freshmen Bentley Hickman and Blake Wichman both scored in the second half for the Highlanders.

Homestead will now travel to Hartford this Friday in a conference rematch for Level 2 of the playoffs. Please make the trip out to support the football team as the Hartford crowd will surely be loud.

Girls Swim & Dive

This past week the ladies were in action in their final conference matchup with Nicolet High School last Tuesday. Followed by JV & V Conference Diving and JV Conference Swimming on Friday and Saturday respectively.

The dual meet against Nicolet was a fun one again with both JV and Varsity taking the competitions. This gives Varsity a 5-2 record on the season and looking in good shape for conference finals this upcoming Saturday. Highlights of the meet included Homestead Relay Dominance, I told you it's a thing, for both JV and V taking all three relay events!! Ladies swimming on those first place relays included Leah Rayhk, Maya Dutta, Aurora Davies, Sophie Rater, Emma Rader, Reagan Godden and Desiree Pierner for JV. First place Varsity relay swimmers were Sasha McKinney, Grace Martyn, Hannah Martyn, Jozy Clark, Mariah Reynolds, Payton Rater and Amy Hu. Other JV first place swims were had by Libby Gilbertson in the 200 Free, Leah Rayhk in the 200 IM & 100 Backstroke, Aurora Davies in the 100 Butterfly, Sophie Rater in the 100 Free, Lila Konya in the 500 Free, and Maya Dutta in the 100 Breaststroke. Varsity first place swims were had by Amy Hu in the 50 Free and the 100 Breaststroke. Final Scores were JV 112-39 and V 101-84. Nicely Done Ladies.

Amy Hu breaking away from the competition!

The ladies cheering on Amy Hu!

The diving competition went Homestead's way as well with our divers placing very strong. The JV competition was won by Alison Kellner and then Lauren Van Vooren took first in the Varsity competition followed closely by Mia Wang in second. Always fun to see our divers in action!

JV and V Conference Diving was held on Friday at West Bend West. Lauren Van Vooren took second place and Mia Wang took 8th in the Varsity competition! Congratulations Ladies! Our JV divers went 1-2 with Kyla Imana in first and Helen-Marie Lohr in second. Congratulations!

JV Conference Swimming was held at Nicolet on Saturday. Because of the wonderful diving by the JV divers, Homestead was in first place entering the meet. Thank you Divers! It was a battle in the pool though with Cedarburg, West Bend and Whitefish Bay finishing in the top of most races along with our strong showing of Homestead Swimmers. We had two ladies place first in their events which is amazing. Huge Congratulations go out to Ailee Bergeron for winning the 50 Free. This was HUGE as there were 6 heats of swimmers totaling 48 swimmers and she bested them all!!  Huge Congratulations also to Maya Dutta for winning the 100 Breaststroke. This was also a very large race with 4 heats and she beat out 25 other swimmers! Way to go ladies. The best part, they are only a sophomore and freshman respectively!! In these big conference meets, places 1-8 score so shout outs to the following individual swimmers who were in the top 8 of their races: Libby Gilbertson-7th 200 Free & 4th 500 Free, Maya Dutta- 4th 200 IM, Emma Rader- 4th 50 Free & 100 Free, Desiree Pierner-7th 50 Free, Aurora Davies-3rd 100 Butterfly & 5th 500 Free, Reagan Godden- 5th 100 Butterfly & 7th 100 Breaststroke, Marin Benson- 7th 100 Free, Jaiden Medrano- 5th 100 Backstroke, Leah Rayhk- 8th 100 Backstroke, Ailee Bergeron- 5th 100 Breaststroke. Homestead Relays also did very well. 200 Medley Relays took 3rd & 5th. 200 Free Relays took 2nd & 6th, and the 400 Free Relays took 5th & 8th. Swimmers on those relays not already mentioned above were Lila Konya, Emma Beaulieu and Lily Parrish- who had a birthday during the meet!! Happy Birthday Lily.

Congratulations to the JV Swim and Dive teams for an amazing season!

Up next, Varsity Swim and Dive get ready to compete at their Conference Finals on Saturday !!

Varsity Girls Tennis

The last match is over for the 2022 Highlander girls tennis team! We served up a sweet spot with four of the team members taking advantage of furthering their play in Madison (held at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium) for Individual State on October 13th and 14th. Our #1 Dubs players, senior Anastasia Raykova and freshman Anya Mikhailenko made quite a racket playing extremely well by challenging their opponents left and right. Freshman Ritu Nair, playing at #1 Singles, approached her first time at State with confidence on and off the court. While our returning member headed back to State for the second year in a row, sophomore Elsa Heinrich, rallied with her punishing slices and volleys. You ladies represented HHS proudly and are ALL WINNERS to us!  HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!

Lastly, the team recently held their annual Awards Night Banquet and honored Captain Anastasia Raykova the prestigious Highlanders Award and the Spirit Award, which is a special recognition given by Coach Jackie Egelhoff in honor of her late father. While, in an unusual turn of events, the team voted on the MVP Award and awarded not only one, but ALL FOUR senior teammates!  These four leaders, Abigail HorwitzAnastasiaAva Karegeannes and Michelle Dubrovsky were honored with this lovely award.

One last thank you, again, to Coach Jackie and Coach Peter Sprinkmann for all of their devoted time and talent with leading the team. And also, to all of the parents and friends on the sideline for coming out to cheer on the ladies and for your help with making it the best year ever! Until next year… BYE
