AGC/VT Weekly Contractor Update

May 4, 2026

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees. Those deaths were preventable.

The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

In this week's Toolbox Talk, Richard and Ben discuss the top 3 ways to prevent falls, but caution why having the gear isn't enough if you don't have a rescue plan.

3 Things VT Contractors Need to

Know This Week

  1. Falls remain a leading cause of jobsite injuries, not because crews aren’t trained, but because plans aren’t followed. Take a few minutes with your team to review guardrails, tie-offs, and your rescue plan.
  2. The Legislatiive session is in its final stretch. Bills are being finalized, reworked, or shelved, with targeted permitting fixes still in play. What makes it across the finish line now will directly shape project timelines, costs, and opportunities.
  3. Get your crew trained for the season. First Aid, Flagging, MSHA refreshers, OSHA 10, and Fire Alarm courses are open for registration.

Week 16 on the Jobsite (AKA the Statehouse)

If the Legislature were a jobsite this week, we’d officially be in final inspections with the punch list still growing.

Week 16 marked the shift from debate to deadline: bills are either getting buttoned up, shoved into conference committees, or quietly loaded back onto the truck for next year.

For contractors, this is the week where what survives matters more than what sounded good in February.
