October 2025

Hello October!

Oh, this weather. It sure has been feeling more like summer than fall and it looks like it's going to continue that way for the foreseeable future. The summer-like weather, along with our extensive Fall Sale, makes this a GREAT month to add trees, shrubs & perennials to your landscape! Come on over and let us help you choose all the right plants for your landscape needs.

As a year-end reminder, if you have a warranty claim this year it must be used by 12/23/25. You do not need to use the warranty value on a new tree or shrub, but it must be used by the 23rd. Our beloved Christmas shop opens mid-November and cut Christmas Trees will arrive around the week of Thanksgiving, so consider using your credit on a holiday favorite!

These special creatures will be on our patio for continuous presentations and interactions from 11-1pm.

Snappy Face Painting will be in the house from 10-1. This is a free activity that always delights children (and adults) of all ages!

Oh, and who's up for a refreshing beer provided by our partners at Bodega Beer Company. They will be serving their special brews from 11-1 or until the beer runs out!

And if all that is not enough, we will also have a kids activity table, photo opportunities, and fresh popped popcorn!

October Edition

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

― L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

General Landscaping

  • It's fall cleanup time!
  • Add mulch to the base of trees & shrubs to prevent moisture evaporation
  • After a hard frost wrap your tree trunks to prevent winter sun scald damage (we have wrap for you in the gift shop)
  • Set up a schedule to winter water your trees. Landscape plantings will need to be watered twice a month when temperatures are above 40 degrees throughout the winter. Please keep in mind that snow does not count as watering unless we have a very heavy spring snow

Shrubs, Perennials & Bulbs

  • Start dreaming of riots of color in the spring by planting spring blooming bulbs: tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocus, and giant alliums!
  • Cut back perennial flowers - if the foliage is disease free, add the cuttings to your compost pile
  • Dig up tender dahlias and gladiolas and store for next year
  • Apply mulch around your roses to protect them through the winter months

Veggies, Fruit & Herbs

  • Continue to enjoy the fruits of your labor while the weather holds
  • Clean veggie beds and apply a moderate (1" - 3") layer of compost
  • Extend your season by adding a cold frame around your cool season crops

Annuals

  • Rough till your annual beds and add a layer of compost
  • Toss out spent summer annual plantings
  • Clean pottery and move to storage
