The Library celebrates two notable library campaigns in the fall: Library Card Sign-up Month in September and Banned Book Week, October 1-7, an annual celebration of the freedom to read.
Anyone over the age of 5 is eligible for a library card at the EPL. The application process is simple: complete a Registration Form or visit in person. You will need to provide ID when you come into the Library for the card, and a parent or guardian signature must accompany the Juvenile Application. That’s it. No proof of residency, no fee, and no hassle to access over 1.6 million resources available through the CLAMS (Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing) network.

News from the Trustees
As this summer winds down, memories of traffic, tourists, and crowded streets linger, but as frustrating as these may sometimes be to year-rounders, they are in significant ways at the pulse beat of our community. I am also reminded of this when I see the nationwide range of donors to our Annual Fund, (which, by the way, reached a new high-water mark for contributions this year). In short, our small, lovely Library touches many people young and old both in town and around the country, and we recognize this as a valued and continuing responsibility.
With these factors in mind, both the Friends of the Library and the Trustees have begun discussing how the Library can best anticipate the community’s needs, address these needs, and connect with all of Chatham’s residents — summer and winter. These ongoing discussions have begun on a very positive note, and we trust they will be not only fruitful but make the Library as responsive and vibrant a place as possible in the future.
In July the Board bade a fond farewell to Sally Stratman, who retired after ten years of service, including years as treasurer, and participation on several committees. We will miss her wisdom and her sage financial advice.

News from the Friends of EPL
|
Our annual Friends membership drive is underway and we want you to join the Friends of the Eldredge Public Library! Your membership fees and participation in fundraising activities help fund library programs, resources, and services that benefit people of all ages, contributing to the cultural and educational enrichment of our community.
The Friends continue to support the Library's new initiatives, such as the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and the seed library. This year we purchased new meeting room chairs and continued to offer discount museum passes, Book Page, Learning Series Programs, Books in Bloom and more! With the Friends support, the Library staff was able to offer a variety of interesting and unique programs for adults and children, such as the virtual speaker series and a summer packed with popular performers for the kids.
Be a part of the Friends! Membership applications are available at the Library or online

A Message From Youth Services
|
This summer, readers from birth to age 18 joined in on activities and programs to explore different art forms and ways to express themselves as part of this year’s Find Your Voice Summer Reading Adventure! The season was brimming with engaging activities and programs designed to explore diverse art forms and encourage self-expression. Over the course of the summer, participants immersed themselves in reading, special events, and a wide array of amazing programming.

Witnessing the creativity, talent, and courage of our young library patrons as they delved into ceramics, capoeira, circus arts, cooking, and more was an absolute delight. Our collaboration with the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center also allowed us to offer insightful sessions on communication and technology. A heartfelt appreciation goes out to The Friends of the Eldredge Public Library and the Chatham Cultural Council for their invaluable support in making these events possible.

As the curtain falls on our Summer Reading Adventure, our focus shifts toward preparing for the fall and winter seasons. September marks a period of cleaning, organizing, and readying our Youth Services department for the upcoming months. We're diligently replenishing our shelves with the latest materials for your enjoyment and taking advantage of opportunities for professional growth.

Teens and tweens can anticipate a thrilling Murder Mystery Dinner, while families will be treated to a special musical event. Stay connected by downloading our Youth Services monthly calendar, visiting our website, and following us on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (X), and Instagram. We can’t wait to see you at the library!
