On National Philanthropy Day (NPD), we celebrate the extraordinary individuals and organizations who are changing the world with a giving heart. This year, AFP Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Chapter will recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to enrich and benefit our communities on Thursday, November 10 at 5pm at the Museum of Ventura County.
Your voice is essential in telling our community's story and we invite you to nominate those exemplary leaders of our philanthropic community so they can be recognized at this year’s event.
The event will honor a recipient from each of the following categories:
Philanthropist of the Year in Santa Barbara County
Philanthropist of the Year in Ventura County
Volunteer of the Year in Santa Barbara County
Volunteer of the Year in Ventura County
Youth in Philanthropy, aged 16-23
Professional Fundraiser of the Year
Champion for Social Justice
If you have someone in mind that you would like to nominate, please submit your nominations via the National Philanthropy Day 2022 Nominations Portal. For more information about who should be nominated, please find award descriptions here. All nominations and supporting documentation must be received by August 5, 2022 to be considered.

The AFP Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Chapter Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we are now receiving nominations for Chapter Directors and other leadership roles for 2023.
This is a very exciting time for our Chapter, and we are looking for leaders who will help guide and shape our work in the years ahead. You are invited to nominate a candidate and encouraged to nominate yourself by using the link below, along with a list of expectations of serving on the chapter board.

Thank you very much for considering building a solid leadership group for the AFP Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties chapter. We look forward to hearing from you—and we hope you will use this opportunity to make your voice heard.
Length of term:
- Directors shall serve one year terms, with the maximum of eight terms for a total of eight (8) years of maximum service.
Meetings and time commitment:
- The board of directors meets every month; the Executive Committee meets at the discretion of the President.
- Committees of the board meet an average of four times per year, pending their respective work agenda.
Expectations of board members:
- Attend and participate in board meetings on a regular basis, and chapter programs as able.
- Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.
- Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by AFP's mission, objectives, and programs.
- Help communicate and promote AFP's mission and programs to the community.
- Become familiar with AFP's finances, budget, and financial/resource needs.
- Understand the policies and procedures of AFP.
- Financially support AFP in a manner commensurate with one's ability.

Select AFP-SBV under the Request Password section and enter your email address. A numeric password will be sent to you for your use of this new system. Please hold on to it for future use.
Once you log in, you will be able to register for any open event. You can also update your profile, and members will be able to access to the membership directory for the chapter. Moving forward, your event history will be logged here so you can access this information for your CFRE.

How to Meet Donors’ Needs Through Planned Giving

Jim Rivera, Chief Philanthropic Counsel at Ventura County Community Foundation, and Bill McMorran, Senior Partner with Green Oak Consulting Group, will share insights into how the needs of donors can be met through planned giving. They will show how Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, and other gift planning vehicles can enhance financial planning conversations with donors. This session will benefit non-profit professionals as well as philanthropic and financial advisors.
Following the presentation in Weinman Hall, there will be an al fresco happy hour for attendees on the beautiful Lind Patio, all located on the enchanting campus of the Music Academy.
